The role is primarily outpatient‑based with opportunities for minor surgery. The successful candidate will play a key role in clinical supervision of registrars, junior doctors, and the wider multidisciplinary team.You’ll contribute to the quality and safety of the service through active involvement in clinical governance, audit, and incident reporting. This post is aimed at a general Dermatologist with an opportunity to develop a special area of interest.University Hospitals Sussex Dermatology “East” covers Brighton General Hospital (BGH), Princess Royal Hospital (PRH) and Royal Alexandra Children’s Hospital (RACH) but is predominantly based at Brighton General Hospital. The main unit has dedicated facilities, which include operating theatres, treatment rooms, a phototherapy unit and consultation suites, and functions as a central hub for clinical, academic, and postgraduate activities. There are weekly multi‑disciplinary skin cancer meetings. Outpatient services are also provided to other local hospitals including Lewes Victoria Hospital, Princess Royal Hospital in Haywards Heath and the Royal Alexandra Children’s Hospital in Brighton. We have our own dedicated booking, administration and secretarial teams that run on the Brighton General site. We have used an Electronic Patient Record since 2015 and are almost fully paper‑less. Our service has embraced new ways of working to the benefit of our patients and our staff.The Dermatology team is comprised of eleven Consultant Dermatologists, two Consultant Plastic Surgeons, five Speciality Registrars, a Research Clinical Fellow, a Surgical Clinical Fellow, and three GPs with special interest in Dermatology. The specialist dermatology nursing service supports clinics including phototherapy, wound care, nurse‑led minor procedures, photodynamic therapy, and systemic and biologic monitoring. We also have two Physician Associates providing support in the outpatient clinics and minor operations.The Dermatology department in Brighton has a high patient throughput of 34,000 consultations per annum. Approximately 16,000 new patients & 18,000 follow‑ups are seen with 2,600 minor procedures conducted in the dermatology day‑case theatres and minor treatment rooms. There are specialist clinics for patients with Psoriasis, Eczema, Melanoma, Immunosuppressed skin surveillance, Paediatric dermatology, Vulval disease, Hair and Scalp disorders, Psychodermatology, Teledermatology, and Hidradenitis Suppurativa. A phototherapy unit provides a full range of treatments including narrowband TLO1, PUVA treatment, and hand/foot PUVA. Most of our consultants have regular two week wait clinics and daycase operating lists. We have two purpose‑built daycase theatres as well as minor ops treatment rooms in outpatients.The post holder will have access to a shared office space with secretarial and administrative support staff on site. The Dermatology service uses an Electronic Patient Record System (Systm One) with an integrated pathology/radiology application and integrated dictation software. Trust laptops support flexible working patterns with remote access. The department meets regularly for monthly complex/joint consultant clinics and histopathology and consultant meetings, and every 3 months for clinical governance and audit meetings.Please see the job description and person specification attached to the advert for further details of the post.Person specification Experience/QualificationsFull and specialist registration (with a licence to practise) with the GMC or be eligible for registration within six months of the interview.If you trained in the UK, you must also have a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in Dermatology or be within six months of receiving it by the interview date.If you trained outside the UK, you must provide evidence that your qualifications are equivalent to the UK CCT.
