Chief Registrar for Division of MedicineAn exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and motivated senior trainee (ST4 or above or equivalent) with an interest in leadership, management and quality improvement to join Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust as a chief registrar on the RCP Chief Registrar Programme.Find out more about the daily tasks, overall responsibilities, and required experience for this opportunity by scrolling down now.The medical chief registrar will be attached to the Division of Medicine and Integrated Care (MIC), which operates Trust-wide, and the acute medicine team at St Mary's Hospital - contributing to the medical take, care of medical inpatients and same day emergency care (SDEC).The chief registrar will have 40% protected time to develop skills and confidence in leadership, management and quality improvement. Projects will be tri-site within MIC and may also extend to other divisions. Projects may include service improvement, engagement and morale, workforce wellbeing, and sustainability.Chief registrars benefit from access to a bespoke development programme provided by the RCP, which runs from September 2025 to June 2026 and comprises five 2-day modules that post holders are expected to attend.The duration of the post is 1 year initially, with the possibility of extending.Main duties of the jobThis post is 60% clinical within the department of Acute Medicine at St Mary's and 40% managerial within the MIC division.The medical division chief registrar will work with the divisional director of medicine and the head of operations for the medical division on a number of projects. These will include:o Providing a bridge between senior clinical leaders, managers and the wider trainee workforce to improve communication, engagement and moraleo Involvement in workforce planning and improving the deployment of trainees to meet service needs and improve moraleo Service improvement projects to improve patient flow and safety within acute medicineo Developing and maintaining up-to-date project documentation, and producing periodic progress reportsThe chief registrar will also attend departmental, divisional management and executive meetings to understand the infrastructure and running of the Trust and how wider social, political and economic factors influence health care delivery.About usAt Imperial College Healthcare you can achieve extraordinary things with extraordinary people, working with leading clinicians pushing boundaries in patient care. Please talk to us at interview.Job responsibilitiesThe post provides opportunity for significant development of project management and leadership skills. Post holders will be supported by a designated consultant who will oversee their development as an educator during the placement and co-ordinate opportunities for personal development. A customised programme of training and educational experience will be designed around the needs of the individual. The chief registrar will also be supported to undertake a formal leadership course provided by the Royal College of Physicians.Hot-desk space and computer access is provided, with access to the Internet, PubMed and medical journals via Imperial College London library services. NB: No study leave funding is attached, but a bursary may be available to assist with postgraduate study.The clinical aspects of the role are based at St Marys Hospital where candidates will look after acute medical inpatients and take part in the acute medical on-call rota. They will work with a team of junior doctors and wider multidisciplinary team, under the supervision of consultant physicians. There will be opportunities for additional experience/training in Same Day Emergency Care and/or specialty clinics according to the post holders interests.The post is ideal for trainees in a specialty training programme who are keen to develop their leadership skills whilst continuing to develop their medical skills.Person SpecificationEducation and QualificationsOn GMC Register with license to practiceMRCP or equivalentAdditional relevant degree (intercalated, masters or doctorate)Relevant experience in specialty/Sub specialtyShould be ST4 or aboveEvidence of satisfactory / more than satisfactory progress through training, including annual review of competence progression (ARCP) outcomesMust have approval of TPD to applyShould not already hold a CCT or be within 12 months (ideally not within 18 months) of completion of training on intended start dateClinical SkillsCompetent in basic clinical proceduresAware of own limitationsConsults senior colleagues appropriatelyAcademic achievements including research/publicationsEvidence of achievement appropriate to level of appointment at ICHNTLeadership and ManagementEvidence of effective team-working and leadershipInterest in and knowledge of the importance of leadership and management for cliniciansEvidence of involvement in local management systemsEvidence of effective leadership (e.g. evidence of leading innovations or improvements)Understanding of the local and national context of the NHS, including economic and political influencesLanguageAre able to speak and write English to the appropriate standard necessary to fulfil the job requirementsDisclosure and Barring Service CheckThis post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly known as CRB) to check for any previous criminal convictions.Divisional Director Of Operations For MedicineDepending on experience44,170 - 67,610 per annum + Ldn Weighting and 1A (50%) banding#J-18808-Ljbffr
