Job Description Fire & Compliance EngineerWest Midlands | Permanent | Full Time | On-SiteTake Ownership of Fire Performance in a Manufacturing EnvironmentAn established manufacturer supplying the commercial construction sector is seeking a Fire & Compliance Engineer to take technical ownership of fire, smoke and acoustic performance across its product range.This is a hands-on engineering role within a product design and manufacturing environment not a consultancy position.You will act as the internal technical authority for fire performance, ensuring products are correctly designed, justified and supported by robust test evidence in line with British and European standards.The RoleThis position sits within Engineering & Quality and supports product design, certification and customer-facing technical activity.Key responsibilities include:Leading interpretation and application of fire, smoke and acoustic standards (BS / EN / Building Regulations)Reviewing and managing fire test reports, classifications, assessments and certification evidenceDefining correct product application and limitations of useSupporting engineering teams with compliant, value-engineered design improvementsActing as the technical liaison with external test houses and certification bodiesSupporting Sales and tendering teams with technically robust fire-rated solutionsContributing to certification maintenance and continuous improvement initiativesYou will play a key role in reducing ambiguity in compliance, ensuring products are engineered correctly from first principles and supported by defensible evidence.Candidate ProfileExperience working with fire-rated construction or building products (e.g. access panels, doorsets, partitions or similar passive fire systems)Background within a fire testing environment or a product manufacturerStrong working knowledge of:BS 476 / EN 1634UK Building Regulations / Approved Document BAssessment and extended application principlesAbility to interpret fire test evidence and translate regulatory requirements into practical engineering decisionsDegree in Fire Engineering or related discipline preferredYou will be technically confident, structured in your approach and comfortable acting as the internal authority on fire performance.Why This Role Is DifferentGenuine ownership of fire compliance within a manufacturing businessDirect influence over product design and developmentVisible technical authority roleLong-term impact on certification robustness and engineering standardsThis position would suit a fire engineer currently working within a test house, certification body or manufacturer who wants to step into a broader technical ownership role within industry.
