As demand for high-density compute infrastructure accelerates, we are seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer with a proven background in complex MEP and mission critical environments to lead mechanical design on highly regulated CAPEX projects.This is a strategic opportunity to contribute to hyperscale facilities where resilience, redundancy, and performance are paramount. You will play a key role in shaping mechanical systems that support cutting-edge AI infrastructure within one of the fastest-growing sectors globally.The RoleAs Senior Mechanical Engineer, you will take ownership of mechanical design across full project lifecycles, ensuring technical excellence and compliance within mission critical environments.Key Responsibilities:Lead mechanical design for hyperscale data centre projects from concept through detailed design and IFC stagesDevelop and review HVAC, chilled water, heat rejection and critical cooling system designsCoordinate complex MEP integration within mission critical environmentsEnsure compliance with UK building regulations and international data centre standardsOversee load calculations, energy modelling and plant sizing for high-density AI compute environmentsCollaborate with electrical, CSA and commissioning teams to ensure coordinated deliveryReview technical submittals, specifications and contractor proposalsSupport design risk reviews, value engineering and constructability assessmentsEngage directly with clients, consultants and specialist supply chain partnersAbout YouYou are a technically strong mechanical engineer with deep experience delivering data centre or mission critical MEP projects in regulated CAPEX environments.Essential Requirements:Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering or Building Services EngineeringSignificant experience in data centre, hyperscale, or other mission critical facilitiesStrong expertise in HVAC systems, chilled water systems, CRAH/CRAC integration and heat rejection plantProven track record delivering complex MEP design packages on large-scale projectsUnderstanding of redundancy principles (N, N+1, 2N) within critical environmentsExperience coordinating across multidisciplinary design teamsFamiliarity with BIM and digital design environmentsExcellent stakeholder communication skillsIf you are a Senior Mechanical Engineer ready to shape the future of AI hyperscale infrastructure and based in South East England, we would like to hear from you.Submit your CV to apply.For a confidential discussion about this opportunity, contact the Blackedge Consulting team.
