OverviewWe are seeking to appoint an outstanding musician and teacher of electric guitar, able to communicate a passion for contemporary Music and to be an inspiration for our pupils in the fields of jazz, rock and popular Music from January (or April) 2026. This position is available on a full-time basis or 0.8 FTE (4 days per week). The successful candidate will continue to build on the existing programme of events, seek to expand the provision and numbers of pupils involved in bands, as well as oversee the development of all aspects of contemporary Music in the school. It is expected that the head of contemporary Music will play a full and active role in the department, seeking to develop and inspire jazz, rock and popular Music playing across the 9-18 age range. They will work within the department to provide a range of opportunities and experiences for pupils from both junior and senior schools, liaising with the director of Music and head of Music in the junior school. It is hoped that the candidate will also wish to be involved in the wider school community. ResponsibilitiesBuild on the existing programme of events and expand provision and numbers of pupils involved in bands. Oversee development of all aspects of contemporary Music in the school. Be involved in the wider school community. QualificationsExpertise in teaching electric guitar, and an excellent knowledge of jazz, rock and popular Music. A genuine interest in expanding our contemporary Music programme. An eagerness to inspire and support all pupils to flourish and reach their musical potential. A desire to enrich the musical experience of pupils by supporting pupil involvement in events, ensembles and competitions relating to contemporary Music. Strong pastoral instincts and a commitment to excellent pastoral care and safeguarding for all pupils. An ability to work well with others. A personal commitment to ongoing professional development.
