Main duties of the jobThe role of a Health Care Assistant is well established within our nursing team and has been developed over the years to provide a wide range of clinical and support services. Within a clearly defined job role you will be able to work autonomously as well as assist other clinical staff in the provision of treatment, preventative care, health promotion and patient education. The successful candidate will have proven experience in a wide range of clinical services including venepuncture, blood pressure monitoring, urinalysis and ECGs. In addition our Health Care Assistants also carry out injections and vaccinations against a specific schedule and support our Diabetic services being able to undertake Diabetic foot checks. You will have a good working knowledge of infection control, safeguarding and the importance of clear and accurate record keeping. Job descriptionJob responsibilitiesWorking as part of the Practice multidisciplinary team, the post holder will support the nursing team in the delivery of nursing services, delivering care within their scope of practice. The post holder will deliver and assist clinical staff in the provision of preventative care, health promotion and patient education. Duties & Responsibilities Urinalysis Preparation of specimens for investigation by the pathology laboratory Measuring and recording following physiological measurements in routine presentations:Pulse rate and rhythm Temperature Height and weight body mass indexRoutine and 24hour Blood Pressure monitoring Venepuncture ECG Administer vaccinations for flu, shingles and pneumonia Administer B12 injections Delivery domiciliary services in the community Provide support during minor surgery and women’s health sessions as required Ordering/maintaining stock levels and control in treatment area. Prepare and maintain environments during and after patient care interventions Perform NHS Health Checks Ensure fridges are monitored and cleaned in accordance with relevant guidance Ensure all clinical rooms are adequately stocked and prepared for each session Support the in-house services for long-term conditions Provide chaperone services for patients and clinicians Assist in raising awareness of health and well-being, and how it can be promoted and deliver opportunistic health promotion where appropriate Record information and activities undertaken with patients and carers in an accurate and timely fashion using manual or computer systems as appropriate Maintain confidentiality or information relating to patients, relatives, staff and the practice Understanding, following and implementing good safeguarding practice Person SpecificationExperienceEssential* Must have worked in general practice in HCA or Phlebotomist role *Able to carry out venepuncture *Able to carry out blood pressure monitoring *Able to carry out urinalysis *Able to carry out routine physiological measurements *Able to carry out ECG’s *Chronic Disease Management *Knowledge of Confidentiality and Safeguarding *Excellent IT skills *Excellent communication skills Desirable*Able to administer injections *Able to carry out diabetic foot checks *Able to assist in minor surgery / women’s health clinics *Knowledge of medical terminology *Able to use EMIS clinical software QualificationsEssential* Skills for Care Certificate or equivalent * 4 GCSE’s (or equivalent) which must include English and Maths at Grade C/Level 5 or above.
