Environmental Coordinator- West SussexMy client is a leading, civil engineering and marine contractor, due to planned and continuous growth they are looking to take on an Environmental Coordinator on a permanent basis. You will be acting as the key link between site operations and leadership, the role focuses on compliance, monitoring, and continuous improvement. The Coordinator supports the implementation of environmental management systems, drives best practice, and helps deliver client and regulatory requirements while promoting innovation in sustainability and biodiversity.Key Responsibilities:Compliance & Monitoring: Ensure adherence to environmental legislation, planning conditions, and company policies across projects. Oversee site monitoring programs for air, water, noise, and biodiversity.Environmental Management Plans: Develop, implement, and review Construction Environmental Management Plans (CEMPs), Site Waste Management Plans, and permit applications.Data & Reporting: Analyse environmental data, prepare technical reports, and maintain accurate records for audits and client submissions.Stakeholder Coordination: Liaise with ecologists, archaeologists, and other specialists to integrate environmental requirements into project delivery.Subconsultant Coordination: Coordinate the work of subconsultants, ensuring their contributions integrate seamlessly into the overall project.Environmental Permitting: Coordinate and prepare licence and permit applications for construction and operational activities, including Marine Licences (MMO), Flood Risk Activity Permits (EA), and Abstraction/Discharge Consents, ensuring compliance with relevant environmental regulations.Bid Support: Contribute environmental input to bid submissions, including quality responses on sustainability, permitting strategy, and environmental risk, working closely with bid teams to meet client and regulatory expectations.Documentation: Oversee the preparation of environmental analyses, reports, models and drawings, and related documents.Collaboration: Work closely with team members, other departments, external architects, engineers, and clients to ensure the construction environment aligns with the client's vision and complies with industry standards.Incident Management: Lead investigations into environmental incidents, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions.Training & Awareness: Deliver toolbox talks and briefings to promote environmental best practices among site teams.Auditing & Certification: Support internal and external audits under ISO 14001 and other certified management systems.Sustainability Initiatives: Assist in implementing biodiversity net gain, carbon reduction, and circular economy practices on projects. The company may, from time to time, require you to undertake duties other than those outlined in this job description and/or to undertake work in other departments/sites to meet customer demands.Any changes to this job description will be discussed and agreed with you.What youll bring:Strong understanding of UK environmental legislation and permitting processes.Knowledge of environmental monitoring techniques and equipment.Familiarity with ISO 14001 Environmental Management Systems.Ability to interpret technical documents, planning conditions, and consent requirements.Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.Minimum 3-5 years in an environmental role within construction, civil engineering, or consultancy.Experience developing and implementing environmental management plans.Proven track record in environmental monitoring and compliance auditing.Exposure to sustainability initiatives such as carbon reduction and biodiversity enhancement.Proficient in Microsoft 365 (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Teams).Experience with GIS, environmental data logging systems, or digital reporting tools.Familiarity with document management systems and CDE platforms (e.g., Procore, Aconex).Training in environmental monitoring equipment and auditing techniques (desirable).Degree or equivalent in Environmental Science, Environmental Management, or related discipline.Practitioner-level membership of ISEP/IEMA (or working towards).Professional registration with SocEnv (REnvTech or progressing to CEnv) desirable
