Head Of Technical Design

We are seeking a Technical Lead to join a growing engineering and fabrication division, taking a hands-on role in delivering complex structural and steelwork projects. This is a great opportunity for an experienced engineer to step into a leadership role, shaping delivery processes and mentoring the next generation of engineers.The RoleAs Technical Lead, you will:Provide technical leadership across a wide range of steelwork and structural engineering packages.Oversee steel connection design, live amendments, and complex site-stage engineering solutions.Lead and mentor engineers within the design and technical team.Work closely with fabrication and construction teams to resolve technical challenges and ensure safe, efficient delivery.Contribute to developing in-house design capabilities, with opportunities to expand into full structural design and refurbishment projects in the future.About YouWe're looking for someone with:Degree in Structural or Civil Engineering (or related discipline).Chartered status (CEng, MIStructE, or equivalent) preferred.Extensive experience in steelwork design, fabrication, welding, and site installation.Solid understanding of connection design, detailing, and temporary works.Ability to work in live construction environments, solving practical engineering problems.Leadership qualities with experience mentoring or managing junior engineers.Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work across design, fabrication, and site teams.What's on OfferProfit share bonus (tax-free up to 3,600 annually).Private medical insurance, enhanced pension, and death in service cover.25 days holiday + paid volunteer day + flexible working options.Bonus opportunities through an employee ownership model.Career progression as the division grows, with scope to shape a team of 20+ engineers over the next few years.Exposure to major, complex engineering projects across the UK.Support for professional development and chartership.Please apply if this opportunity sounds like a good next step!Aldwych Consulting values diversity and promotes equality.
