About Us: SuperSharp Space Systems Ltd is at the forefront of in-orbit optics, developing cutting-edge optical systems that push the boundaries of innovation. We are seeking an experienced, practical, hands-on Senior Optomechanical Engineer to join our team and help drive the development and testing of our existing optical products and assist with future design work. Role Overview: As a Senior Optomechanical Engineer, you will have responsibilities in developing high precision optical and mechanical systems from concept through integration, verification, and delivery. You will work closely with cross-functional teams (e.g. electronics and software) to ensure successful prototyping, testing, and deployment of our products. This is a senior individual contributor role with no direct line management responsibilities, but with technical leader/ownership and mentoring expectations. Key Responsibilities: Contribute to the development of optomechanical systems and components from early concept through flight-ready hardware. Lead hands-on lab testing, including actively contributing to alignment, integration, and characterization of optical assemblies. Supervise work of technicians and provide day-to-day technical guidance during integration and test activities. Develop and execute experimental setups and test procedures, integrating instrumentation and control using Python or other scripting tools. Create and modify 3D CAD models for components, assemblies, and prototypes with appropriate tolerancing for precision manufacture and alignment. Use optical design tools, e.g. Zemax, to analyze and optimize system performance and correlate optical models with measured test data.. Collaborate with optical, mechanical, and software engineers to ensure seamless integration of subsystems. Document designs, test plans, and results clearly both for internal teams and external stakeholders in line with industry standards. Work with optical component suppliers including technical discussions, drawing reviews, and support to procurement and inspection activities.. Support environmental testing activities (e.g. vibration, thermal vacuum) and subsequent performance verification. Contribute to the design of future optomechanical systems and components. Required Skills & Experience: Proven experience in optomechanical engineering, including lab-based system testing and integration. Hands-on experience with optical alignment, characterization, and testing equipment. Strong understanding of how optical components are manufactured. Strong knowledge of optical design software (Zemax) and 3D CAD tools (SolidWorks, Creo, or similar). Experience scripting in Python to automate tests, control equipment, or analyze data. Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently on complex technical challenges. Excellent communication skills and ability to explain optical knowledge with other engineers. Preferred Qualifications: Experience with custom optical assemblies, lens systems, or optomechanical mounts. Experience working with long-wave infra-red (8 to 13 microns wavelength range) optics and sensors. Knowledge of tolerance analysis, thermal/mechanical effects on optical systems, and precision manufacturing. Familiarity with laboratory automation, data acquisition systems, or control electronics. Experience with vibration, shock, and thermal-vacuum testing of optical systems. Knowledge of ECSS, ISO, or equivalent engineering standards. What We Offer: Opportunity to work on innovative optical systems at the cutting edge of technology. Collaborative, dynamic work environment with a strong engineering culture. Career growth opportunities and the ability to shape new projects from concept to production. Apply Today: If you’re an experienced hands-on engineer with a passion for optics and mechanics, and thrive in experimental lab environments, we want to hear from you! Please submit your resume and a brief cover letter detailing your relevant experience.
