Senior Financial Accountant

Job DescriptionMERJE are delighted to be partnered with a dynamic and fast-growing international humanitarian charity in their search for a talented Senior Financial Accountant.Based in West Yorkshire. This is a hybrid role (3 days office 2 days WFH) 9am - 5.30pm.This is a pivotal senior role within the organisation.You will lead on financial accounting, regulatory reporting, systems implementation, and data-driven performance analysis. The successful candidate will provide leadership across the finance function, support strategic decision-making, and ensure robust financial control, reporting, and forecasting across UK and global operations. You will be a key business partner to senior management, a mentor to the finance team, and act as a critical support and deputy to the Director of Finance.Key Responsibilities:Financial Accounting & ReportingBudgeting & ForecastingSystem & Process ImplementationData Analytics & Business PartneringLeadership & Team ManagementOur Ideal Candidate: Qualified Accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent). Proven experience in financial accounting, statutory accounts preparation, and audit coordination. Strong budgeting, forecasting, and business partnering background. Advanced Excel skills and ability to manipulate large datasets. Experience producing financial insights through dashboards and reporting tools (Power BI desirable). Demonstrated leadership and people management experience. Experience with financial systems implementation and process improvement. Strong understanding of charity finance, SORP, and regulatory compliance. Excellent communication skills and ability to influence at senior levels.Desirable: Experience in the charity or not-for-profit sector. Familiarity with international operations and currency consolidation. Understanding of UK Chairty tax. Experience working with diverse stakeholder groups, including Trustees.
