Workshop Supervisor - Sheet Metal FabricationSalary Range: £38k–£42k | Full-Time | Thatcham, BerkshireTMF is looking for a confident, hands-on Workshop Supervisor to lead our busy fabrication team. If you’re a driven and assertive professional with a strong background in metalwork, and you're passionate about delivering top-quality output in a safe, well-organised environment — we want to hear from you.ABOUT THE ROLEAs our Workshop Supervisor, you’ll take full responsibility for the day-to-day running of our fabrication and assembly workshop. This is not a desk job — you’ll lead from the front, managing workflow, coaching staff, maintaining quality, and ensuring safety standards are consistently met. You’ll play a vital role in shaping a culture of responsibility and continuous improvement on the shop floor.WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FORA confident leader with the presence and authority to manage shop floor activities effectively.Strong sense of quality and accountability — driven to get the job done right, every time.Motivated by improvement — in people, processes, and workshop standards.Excellent communication skills, both upwards to management and across the team.Calm under pressure, organised, and solution-focused.KEY RESPONSBILITIESSupervise fabrication and assembly operations, ensuring work is completed to specification and schedule.Allocate jobs, track performance, and challenge underperformance with fairness and clarity.Personally check and sign off key items, investigating any defects or rework needs.Champion safe working practices and clean, orderly workspaces.Implement and sustain Lean tools (5S, standardised work, visual management).Coordinate with the General Manager and other departments to align production plans and priorities.Track workshop metrics (output, quality rates, productivity) and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND SKILLSPrevious leadership experience in a fabrication or metalworking environmentStrong hands-on background in MIG/TIG weldingConfident in reading and interpreting engineering drawingsFamiliarity with metal forming, folding, and laser cutting processesProficient with job tracking systems, performance data, Excel and emailLean manufacturing knowledge and experience with 5S or CI initiatives will be a significant advantageQUALIFICATIONSRelevant engineering/metalwork qualification (e.g., NVQ, City & Guilds, or equivalent)GCSEs or A-LevelsFull UK Driving Licence (required)BENEFITS (following the successful completion of a three-month probationary period)• Company pension scheme• Life assurance scheme• Medical expenses scheme• Health & wellbeing support package• Generous holiday allowance• Training opportunities provided = qualification-related pay increases
