Overview Engagement, Progression and Safeguarding OfficerLocation:St AustellSalary:£27,027.61 FTE / CC_35 / £14.05 per hour (actual pro-rata salary £19,666.66 plus holiday pay £2,874.36, total pro-rata salary £22,541.01, £16.10 per hour)Terms & Conditions:Term Time (35 hours/40 weeks), Support ContractClosing Date:26 October 2025Interview Date:TBC*Subject to change based on start date/remaining weeksAbout the Role Based at our St Austell campus we are seeking a dedicated Safeguarding Officer to take a leading role in supporting the safety and wellbeing of students on campus. This role involves providing expert guidance to staff on safeguarding matters, acting as the designated teacher for vulnerable students (including Children in Care, Children in Need, and those on Child Protection Plans), and ensuring all safeguarding decisions are effectively managed. The successful candidate will also play a key part in promoting student engagement, attendance, and progression by helping learners overcome barriers to success in college.Skills & Experience The ideal candidate will hold current Level 2 Safeguarding and Level 3 Multi-Agency training, along with Safeguarding Adults qualifications, and a minimum Level 2 in English and Maths. Prevent training is essential. They will have excellent knowledge of safeguarding, Prevent, and referral processes, and be confident using IT, including college systems and Office 365. Experience in supporting or mentoring young people aged 14-25, undertaking safeguarding interventions, and working with external agencies is required, along with an understanding of mental health issues and supporting adults. Personal attributes include a strong commitment to learners, excellent people skills, empathy, the ability to challenge and encourage, and a respectful, inclusive attitude that promotes equality and diversity. Desirable qualifications and experience include relevant backgrounds such as Youth Work, Sports/Recreation, Advice and Guidance, supervising learners, offering information and welfare support, experience within a Student Union or Youth Club, and a minibus driving license.Benefits We have excellent terms and conditions of employment.
