Design ManagerSt Albans Salary: £60,000£80,000Overview Seeking an experienced Design Manager to lead the development, coordination and delivery of civil and MEICA design solutions for water and wastewater infrastructure projects. This role involves managing internal engineers and external design partners, ensuring technical compliance, quality outputs and delivery to programme and budget.Key ResponsibilitiesDesign LeadershipTake ownership of technical integrity and compliance across all project design stagesEnsure designs meet statutory, client and industry standardsManage external design consultants, ensuring delivery against contract requirementsDevelop robust, reliable and maintainable design solutions meeting project objectivesLead multi-disciplinary engineering teams in producing concept, outline and detailed designSupport project teams with design reviews, technical input and engineering solutionsProgramme, Change and Cost ControlProduce and manage engineering budgets, schedules and design programmesApply change control processes to track design development, scope change and cost impactsEvaluate design options and provide technical recommendationsEnsure all outputs including drawings, specs, calculations and design checks follow QA proceduresCollaboration & Stakeholder ManagementWork closely with Project Managers, Engineering Managers and operational teamsLiaise with supply chain specialists for technical inputCoordinate with internal and external temporary works designers where requiredSupport stakeholder engagement, addressing risks, issues and scope change sGovernance & ComplianceAdhere to company safety, quality and governance frameworksPromote consistent, safe and professional working practicesMaintain accurate design trackers and support internal/external reportingContribute to a positive team culture, knowledge sharing and cross-functional collaborationKey MeasuresAccurate forecasting and reportingEffective risk mitigation and identification of design opportunitiesMeeting programme deadlines and monthly reporting cyclesMaintaining strong relationships with clients, suppliers and internal teamsDelivering design outputs to required quality standardsAbout YouEssentialMinimum 10 years' experience in design and design managementStrong understanding of foul water drainage and potable water mainsExperience with BIM and common data environmentsDegree/HNC in Civil Engineering or equivalentMember (or working towards membership) of a recognised engineering institution (IEng/CEng)Strong communication and stakeholder management skillsAble to lead teams, manage deadlines and coordinate multi-disciplinary design packagesSelf-driven, organised and results-focusedTPBN1_UKTJ
