SALARY: 24,796 per annum FTE / Actual Annual Salary 20,116 per annum + Benefits LOCATION: Hedge End, Southampton, Hampshire JOB TYPE: Full-Time, Permanent WORKING HOURS: 35 Hours per Week, Monday to Friday 8.30am - 4.00pm, Term Time only (39 weeks) JOB OVERVIEW As they enter an exciting period of growth, the organisation is seeking a dedicated Pastoral Mentor / Student Support Worker to help students thrive both academically and personally. The Pastoral Mentor / Student Support Worker will play a central role in ensuring young people feel supported and valued within a safe and inclusive learning environment. Working closely with teachers, Year Heads, and external agencies, the Pastoral Mentor / Student Support Worker will deliver individual mentoring and wellbeing support, promoting safeguarding and early intervention. DUTIES Your responsibilities as the Pastoral Mentor / Student Support Worker will include: Student Support: You will act as a key point of contact for students, providing individualised support and guidance on a range of personal, social and emotional issues Mentoring: You will develop positive relationships with students, offering one-to-one mentoring and building their confidence and self-esteem Monitoring and Early Intervention: You will work with the Pastoral Team to identify students who may be facing challenges and implement early intervention strategies Collaboration: You will liaise closely with Year Heads, teachers, and external agencies to ensure a coordinated approach to student support Personal Development: You will track student progress and maintain confidential records, contributing to the development of personalised support plans Community Building: You will contribute to a positive and inclusive school environment where all students feel valued and supported CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS Genuine interest in the welfare and development of young people Strong communication, listening and interpersonal skills Empathetic, patient and approachable with a positive outlook Ability to work effectively as part of a team and maintain confidentiality Understanding of safeguarding and child protection principles Previous experience in a pastoral, mentoring or youth support role is desirable BENEFITS Exceptional team environment where all staff are valued Excellent Continuing Professional Development with high quality CPD programs Many opportunities for career progression Extensive department resources and facilities A tax efficient Cycle-to-Work scheme through salary sacrifice Staff membership rates to the modern Leisure Centre Enrolment in one of the UKs largest public sector pension schemes The school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.
