We’re looking for a creative Digital Producer-Reporter who can make bold, distinctive stories resonate across every platform — from TikTok and YouTube to the 5 News studio. You’ll spot the stories that get people talking, craft them with flair and accuracy, and deliver them in ways that connect with audiences across the UK. As Digital Producer-Reporter, you’ll grow 5 News’s digital reach while keeping our trusted, human tone at the heart of everything you do. You work in the wider newsroom with a small digital team of three people.The successful candidate must have a strong understanding of all social media platforms, the ability to spot moments from the show which will work on each platform and be full of ideas for new digital content which will further develop our digital profile which is relatively in its infancy. They must also have a good understanding of the 5 audience on linear and online, first-class journalism skills and excellent judgement.Key Responsibilities:Produce and report packages to the highest editorial and technical standards — both independently and as well as offering guidance and production to correspondents/reportersGenerate creative, engaging story ideas for digital audiences, some may have potential for linear as well as spotting and editing moments from the 5pm programme that are ripe for a digital audiencesWorking with the digital team manage 5 News’s social media channels (including Facebook, Twitter/X, Instagram, TikTok and YouTube), ensuring all output reflects the voice and values of the programmeIdentify moments from the show suitable for digital and social distribution, adapting tone, length and style per platformFilm, write and present short-form and long-form stories, both on-screen and as voiceovers, for digital and broadcast useEdit video on Avid and Premiere Pro, creating content in a variety of formats suited to each platformMonitor and respond to social trends, providing insight to the wider newsroom and identifying stories or moments that could also make great televisionEnsure all published content meets the highest standards of accuracy, legality, impartiality and taste, in line with Ofcom and ITN guidelinesLiaise with the press and communications team to distribute clips and stories that amplify the reach of 5 NewsAnalyse digital performance, producing regular engagement and performance reportsResearch, select and edit archive or user-generated content when appropriatePlan and co-ordinate coverage in line with 5 News’s editorial prioritiesMaintain awareness of financial, compliance and health and safety responsibilitiesThese are the main requirements of the role and is not an exhaustive list of duties. It is intended to reflect the nature, range, and context of the work, which will change over time.Key Requirements:Strong editorial judgement and journalistic instinctsProven experience producing and reporting for broadcast or digital newsExcellent understanding of social media trends and platform algorithmsVideo editing experience (Avid preferable, Premiere Pro essential)Strong writing skills — concise, accurate and engaging, adaptable for both scripts and captionsAbility to shoot and edit on location; confident in front of camera or voicing reportsExperience running or contributing to professional social media channels for a news/media organisationKnowledge of media law, Ofcom regulations and ITN compliance proceduresCreative, self-motivated and able to work under pressure to tight deadlinesCalm, collaborative and adaptable within a fast-moving news environmentExcellent communication and interpersonal skillsStrong attention to detail, accuracy and editorial integrityDesirableExperience using iNews or similar newsroom systemsBasic graphic design or motion graphics skillsUnderstanding of analytics tools and audience insights.Familiarity with 5’ News’s tone and target audience (particularly 35–54 demographic)Previous experience in both linear and digital news environmentsOur people are at the heart of everything we do at ITN.
