Job Description CNC Machinist Senior (Hands-On)Location: Skelmersdale, LancashireSalary: 40,000 45,000Job Type: Full-time, PermanentWorking HoursMonday Thursday: 8:00am 4:30pmFriday: 8:00am 3:30pmOvertime OpportunitiesTypically 1 hour before and/or after standard working hoursSaturday mornings when requiredContek Recruitment are currently working with a well-established precision engineering company who are looking to recruit an experienced Senior CNC Machinist to join their growing team.This is a hands-on senior / chargehand-level role, ideal for someone with strong CNC machining expertise who enjoys leading by example on the shop floor, remaining actively involved in programming, setting, and operating, while also taking responsibility for job ownership and essential workshop documentation.The CompanyOur client is a highly respected precision engineering business with over 50 years experience manufacturing high-integrity machined components and fabrications for demanding industries including offshore, subsea, and nuclear sectors, supplying customers across the UK and internationally.The RoleAs Senior CNC Machinist (Mills & Lathes), you will play a key role in the day-to-day running of the machining function, working hands-on at the machine while providing technical oversight and support across jobs.You will operate at a senior technical level, acting as a point of reference within the workshop, ensuring components are produced safely, efficiently, and to exacting quality standards. This role does not require formal people management but does involve ownership, coordination, and influence on the shop floor.Key ResponsibilitiesAct as a senior technical point of reference for CNC machining activitiesHands-on programming, setting, and operating of CNC machinesProgramming primarily at the machine using Fanuc controlsSetting and operating 3-axis CNC milling machines and 2-axis CNC lathesManufacture precision components to tight tolerancesInterpret and work from detailed engineering drawingsEnsure parts meet quality, specification, and customer requirementsCarry out in-process inspection and record dimensional checksSupport daily job priorities, sequencing, and workflowComplete and maintain accurate job cards and workshop documentationEnsure compliance with health & safety and company proceduresLiaise with engineering, quality, and production teams to resolve technical issuesCandidate RequirementsProven experience in a senior or highly skilled CNC Machinist roleStrong background in CNC programming, setting, and operatingExperience with Fanuc-controlled CNC Mills and LathesCompetent on 3-axis mills and 2-axis lathesExperience machining a range of materials (including steels and alloys)Ability to read and interpret complex engineering drawingsComfortable completing inspection records and workshop documentationStrong technical judgement, organisation, and communication skillsExperience working in regulated or high-integrity sectors (offshore, subsea, nuclear) advantageousWhats On OfferCompetitive salary depending on experienceRegular overtime opportunitiesEarly finish every FridayStable, long-term role within a reputable engineering businessOpportunity to work on varied, high-specification componentsSupportive working environment with skilled, experienced colleaguesJBRP1_UKTJ
