This role does not offer sponsorship.Additional Information: *Opportunities for enhancement for the right candidate*We are seeking a dedicated, inspiring and skilled KS3 Nurture Teacher to join our team at Baston House School in Bromley, Kent on a fixed-term basis to cover a period of paternity leave. This is an exciting opportunity for a qualified teacher who is passionate about inclusive education, holistic child development, and individualised learning pathways.About the roleIn this role, you will lead a small Key Stage 3 nurture class, supporting pupils with autism and additional needs. You will deliver a broad and balanced curriculum that meets their academic targets while also promoting communication skills, emotional regulation, independence, and life skills.This is not a traditional mainstream teaching role. You will be part of a multidisciplinary team that includes speech and language therapists, occupational therapists, behaviour analysts, and pastoral staff. Together, you will work to remove barriers to learning and help every young person feel valued, understood, and successful.Key ResponsibilitiesPlan and deliver engaging, differentiated lessons in line with individual EHCPs (Education, Health and Care Plans)Create a safe, positive, and structured learning environmentPromote pupil wellbeing, confidence, and emotional development alongside academic progressUse a variety of teaching strategies and assistive technologies to meet individual needsMonitor, assess and report on pupil progress using school systems and frameworksWork closely with parents/carers and external professionals to provide a holistic support systemParticipate in the wider life of the school including staff meetings, CPD, and school eventsMaintain accurate records of behaviour, incidents, and progress using the school’s systemsContribute to the review and updating of curriculum planning and school policies as requiredWho we are looking forWe’re looking for a caring, flexible, and resilient teacher with a strong understanding of SEN and a creative approach to learning. You must be confident working with children and young people who may present with challenging behaviour, communication difficulties, and complex emotional needs.Essential:Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent (UK-recognised teaching qualification)Experience teaching pupils with autism, learning difficultiesStrong classroom management and behaviour regulation strategiesAbility to plan and adapt lessons to meet a range of learning styles and abilitiesExcellent communication, teamwork and organisational skillsA reflective, proactive, and solution-focused approach to teaching and learningDesirable:Knowledge of TEACCH, PECS, SCERTS, or similar frameworksExperience working within a specialist setting or alternative provisionAn understanding of trauma-informed practice and positive behaviour supportAbility to deliver a nurture-based curriculum and contribute to social/emotional learningFamiliarity with EHCP processes and statutory reporting requirementsAbout UsBaston House is an independent day specialist provider of education and care for young people and adults aged 5 to 19 years who have been diagnosed with Autism (ASC).Baston House School ensures that our school environment supports learning and promotes the well-being of pupils and staff through a strong sense of community cohesion.
