Principal Mechanical Systems EngineerLocation: Sheffield (Hybrid working available)Type: Full-time, PermanentMy client are a successful engineering firm seeking a Principal Mechanical Systems Engineer to play a key role in delivering safety-critical handling, lifting and movement solutions across high-integrity sectors including nuclear, defence, aerospace, and kinetic architecture.This is a unique opportunity to join a forward-thinking business that prides itself on technical excellence, innovation, and engineering integrity. You’ll work on highly specialised and complex projects, guiding both design and delivery while mentoring the next generation of engineers.Key ResponsibilitiesLead the design, analysis, and delivery of mechanical systems including structural elements, machinery, actuation and drive systemsOversee compliance, safety assurance, and engineering governance across the full product lifecycleDefine, verify and validate engineering requirements across disciplinesMentor and develop engineers, fostering technical growth and high-quality project outcomesManage technical risk and ensure alignment with standards, regulations, and internal processesAbout YouDegree-qualified (or equivalent experience) in a relevant engineering disciplineChartered Engineer (or demonstrably working toward it)Deep expertise in mechanical and structural systems, such as lifting equipment, cranes, bespoke handling systems, or high-integrity moving structuresStrong background in compliance-led environments and multidisciplinary project deliveryProven ability to evaluate complex problems and develop high-quality technical solutionsConnected Search Group is an equal opportunities employer.
