Job DescriptionCNC Turner Senior MachinistLocation: ReadingRate: 25 - 35 per hour Hours; 7:00 - 16:00 Mon-Thurs 7:00 - 12:00 FridaysJob Type: Full-timeReports To: Machine Shop SupervisorWere looking for a skilled and experienced CNC Turner to join our high-performance precision manufacturing team in Reading. This role is ideal for a machinist who specialises in CNC lathes and turning centres, with a passion for quality, accuracy, and continuous improvement. Youll be responsible for producing complex turned components to exacting standards, often working to tight tolerances and lead times.Key Responsibilities:Set, operate, and adjust CNC lathes to machine precision componentsRead and interpret engineering drawings and technical specificationsLoad and inspect tooling, set tool offsets, and edit CNC programs at the machineCarry out first-off, in-process, and final inspections using precision measuring equipment (micrometers, gauges, CMMs)Ensure all work meets strict quality and dimensional tolerancesDeburr and finish components as requiredWork to production schedules and optimise cycle times without compromising qualitySupport sub-assembly processes when necessaryMaintain clean, organised workstations and follow health & safety practicesParticipate in continuous improvement initiatives including lean, 5S, and kaizenAssist in mentoring junior machinists and apprenticesWhat Were Looking For:Recognised engineering apprenticeship or minimum 10 years experience in a CNC turning roleExpert knowledge of CNC lathes (Fanuc, Mazatrol, or similar control systems)Solid understanding of metal cutting principles and machining best practicesStrong ability to work from complex engineering drawingsSelf-sufficient, accurate, and methodical work ethicAble to identify drawing or material issues and escalate appropriatelyCommitment to lean manufacturing and a right-first-time approachReliable, punctual, and safety-conscious team player
