Job Description Job Title: Structural Steelwork and Metalwork EstimatorLocation: PrestonSalary: Negotiable dependant upon experienceWork Model: Office-based with site visitsThe RoleOur Client have been established for over 50 years. They specialise in Steel structures for both commercial and industrial settings. They are seeking an experienced Steelwork Estimator to join our growing commercial team. You will be responsible for taking projects from the initial inquiry stage through to final tender submission, ensuring accuracy, competitiveness and profitability.You will work on a diverse range of projects including industrial portal frames, commercial structures, access platforms, staircase and architectural metalwork.Key Responsibilities Detailed Take-offs: Extracting material quantities and specifications from architectural and engineering drawings (CAD, Tekla). Technical Pricing: Calculating costs for raw materials, fabrication labour, specialist coatings (galvanizing / painting), and site erection. Value Engineering: Identifying cost-saving alternatives for clients without compromising structural integrity. Supplier Negotiation: Managing relationships with steel stockholders and subcontractors to secure the best market rates. Handover: Providing a seamless transition of successful bids to the Project Management and Fabrication teams.RequirementsExperience: Minimum 35 years in a structural steel estimating or quantity surveying role.Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of steel grades, welding standards (e.g., BS EN 1090), and fabrication processes.Software: Proficiency in Microsoft Excel is essential and experience in Tekla is highly advantageous.Communication: Ability to present technical cost data clearly to clients and senior management.Qualifications: A HNC/Degree in Construction, Engineering, or Quantity Surveying is preferred, but "time-served" industry experience is highly valued.What We OfferCompetitive Salary: Reflected by your experience and local market rates.Bonus Scheme: Company is and ETO with bonuses issued to all employees based on success of the business through put the year.Growth: Career paths toward Senior Estimator or Commercial Manager.JBRP1_UKTJ
