Job Description Hardware/Electronics Test EngineerLocation: Portland, DorsetSalary: 40,000 per annumWorking Pattern: Hybrid (2-3 days per week onsite)The RoleWe are seeking an experienced and collaborative Electronics Test Engineer to join a high-performing engineering and manufacturing team supporting the delivery of high-quality electronic products and systems within the defence sector.This role is ideal for a hands-on test engineer with strong fault-finding skills who enjoys working to high standards and tight deadlines on complex, high-profile projects.Reporting to the Functional Lead, you will play a key role in production inspection, testing, and verification of electronic modules, units, and systems.Key ResponsibilitiesPerform IPC-level inspections of electronic assemblies during production and prior to testingExecute and document formal test procedures, recording results for hardware, software, and firmware configurationsCarry out fault finding and diagnosis down to component levelTake accurate measurements using a range of electronic test equipmentRecord and report defects, discrepancies, and test documentation issuesMaintain a safe, clean, and organised test and assembly environmentEnsure work is completed to required quality standards and deadlinesMaintain accurate test records and system narrativesWork closely with engineering and manufacturing teams to resolve issuesEssential Skills & ExperienceMinimum 3 years' experience in a technical test or electronics test roleExperience working on defence-related projectsIPC inspection certificationBTEC / ONC / HNC / HND in Electronics or equivalentStrong experience using test equipment such as oscilloscopes, spectrum analysers, function generators, multimeters, and power suppliesProven fault-finding and repair skills for analogue and digital electronicsAbility to read and interpret electronic and mechanical drawingsKnowledge of electronic components and basic electrical/electronic requirementsExperience working in a manufacturing or production environmentStrong written and verbal communication skillsComfortable producing detailed technical documentationProficient with Microsoft Office / Office 365Self-motivated and able to work independently with minimal supervisionAbility to obtain UK Security Clearance (or already SC Cleared)Desirable SkillsAdvanced rework and track repair skillsComponent-level fault findingStrong understanding of circuit diagramsCreative and "out-of-the-box" problem-solving approach
