Senior Quantity Surveyor Peterborough Contract Type: Permanent | Working Pattern: Hybrid Finlay Jude Associates are proud to be recruiting on behalf of a market-leading integrated design and build contractor operating across the UK water sector. The Role Reporting directly to the Managing Quantity Surveyor (MQS) , youll play a key role in the successful commercial management of a variety of project work packages. Youll act as the commercial conscience within the delivery team providing insight, challenge, and leadership to ensure projects achieve outperformance in cost, value, safety, and quality. This is a fantastic opportunity for a commercially minded professional looking to work as part of a collaborative, multi-disciplinary delivery team within one of the most respected names in the water industry. Key Responsibilities Manage and oversee the commercial and cost management of assigned project work packages. Ensure robust and accurate cost plans are live, aligned with project scope, and regularly updated. Deliver all required commercial reporting in line with the agreed calendar and Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) / Cost Breakdown Structure (CBS). Support estimators to ensure accurate and comprehensive estimates, factoring in risk, opportunity, and scope alignment. Work closely with the Procurement team to develop and monitor procurement strategies. Prepare and manage subcontracts in accordance with contractual requirements, including change control, payments, early warnings, and compensation events. Collaborate with the site team, providing commercial support, cost challenge, and guidance to drive efficiencies and outperformance. Produce accurate live forecasts based on programme progress, actual costs, and value of work done. Ensure compliance with governance processes, and identify any variances or affordability challenges early. Lead on change management, ensuring all variations are properly administered with both client and supply chain partners. Maintain comprehensive commercial records to support audits, cost assurance, and reporting requirements. Promote a collaborative team culture and actively mentor junior team members. Support continuous improvement by identifying cost-saving opportunities and efficiency gains. Essential Skills & Experience: Proven experience delivering large, multi-disciplinary projects within time, budget, and quality constraints. Strong understanding of NEC contracts and commercial management principles. Experience working within a complex Cost Breakdown Structure (CBS) . Background in water or wastewater process projects (preferred). Excellent communicator able to present, negotiate, and build strong relationships with clients, partners, and internal teams. Collaborative team player with strong leadership and mentoring skills. Highly organised and proactive, with a strategic mindset and attention to detail.
