An opportunity has arisen to be an integral member of Cumbria Constabulary’s FMIT, supervising a team of investigators; investigating major and complex crime, serious and organised crime including complex non-recent abuse cases and cold cases of homicide and rape; under the direction of the Head of Crime, the FMIT Detective Inspector and/or a Senior Investigating Officer (SIO). . We are looking for a dedicated individual to work alongside an established Detective Sergeant on FMIT, who will support and develop the staff within FMIT and manage the investigations into serious offences. The role will involve: . Supervising a team of accredited civilian investigators and detectives Completing Major Incident Room (MIR) actions with a view to identifying, gathering, securing and preserving evidence and other relevant material and third-party material to achieve a fair investigation for a fair trial ethos. Performing key roles within an investigation’s Major Incident Room (MIR) such as enquiry team supervisor and HOLMES manager roles including office manager, document reader, receiver and action manager / allocator depending up current training, skills and experience. In some cases, the Lead Investigator may be required to perform the role of a deputy SIO. Recording evidential accounts from victims, witnesses and professional witnesses by recording witness statements and or conducting interviews following the Achieving Best Evidence (ABE) guidelines were current skills and training allow. Utilising powers of confirmed by the Chief Constable of Cumbria Constabulary, such as: powers to search premises, seize evidence, interview suspects and apply for warrants. Conducting suspect interviews under caution having a full understanding of current law, codes of practice, national guidelines and procedures, including the ability to apply their own experience and judgement to progress the aims and objective of the interview. Conducting house to house enquiries, trace interview and eliminate (TIE) enquiries and search team duties. Gathering, documenting and maintaining evidential continuity of any exhibits relating to an investigation including performing the role of the exhibits officer. Reviewing third party material in line with the Criminal procedure and Investigations Act (CPIA) and the Attorney Generals guidelines on disclosure. Conducting intelligence research where current skills, training and access to systems allow. Preparing casework reports for submission to the Crown Prosecution Service and onward case progression pre and post charge. Ensuring the welfare needs of victims, witnesses and those under investigation are taken into account at all times Being competent to attend court or any other hearing / proceedings as a witness if necessary. Working closely with external agencies such as CPS, HM Coroner’s office, Social Services, NHS and charities where needed and developing strong working relationships with these agencies. . The right candidate will have a working knowledge of the HOLMES system in line with MIRSAP guidance, experience of investigating serious and complex crimes and PIP Level 2 accreditation (or equivalent). .
