One of our innovative biotech clients is seeking a Senior Scientist Formulation to join their growing R&D team in Oxford, UK . This full-time, permanent position offers the opportunity to work on next-generation lipid nanoparticle (LNP) delivery systems for mRNA vaccines and therapeutics. The ideal candidate will have recently completed a PhD focused on nanoparticle formulation or biomaterials and will be eager to translate their academic expertise into real-world product development. The Role Design, formulate, and optimise lipid- and polymer-based nanoparticles for mRNA and nucleic acid delivery. Develop and execute experimental plans to enhance formulation efficiency and stability. Support the development of manufacturing processes and technology transfer to external GMP facilities. Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams including RNA synthesis, biology, and analytical specialists. Maintain high laboratory standards, ensuring accurate documentation and reporting. Present data and findings clearly to both scientific and non-scientific audiences. The Profile PhD in Biotechnology, Chemistry, Pharmaceutics, or related discipline , with research focused on nanoparticles, lipid systems, or polymeric formulations. Hands-on experience with formulation development and nanoparticle characterization . Familiarity with mRNA or nucleic acid formulation is highly desirable. Proficiency in key analytical techniques (e.g., DLS, TEM, LC-MS, HPLC, NMR, SAXS, DSC). 12 years of postdoctoral or industry experience advantageous but not essential. Key Skills Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving ability. Clear and concise communicator, capable of explaining formulation principles and equipment use. Self-motivated, organised, and capable of managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced R&D environment. Team-oriented, adaptable, and driven by scientific curiosity.
