Job Description Lightricity is a high-tech SME which has developed ultra-high efficiency light (photovoltaic) energy harvesting technologies for IoT and space applications. Our indoor PV technology provides power to smart devices and sensors without the need for disposable batteries, providing a sustainable and cost-effective solution for powering billions of smart devices and sensors. Our outdoor PV technology has state-of-the-art performance and provides electrical power for micro-satellites and UAVsLightricity is seeking a Automation / Robotics Engineer to develop systems and processes for the automated assembly of high-efficiency solar cells into solar cell assemblies. The successful candidate will play a key role in scaling up manufacturing utilising robotic equipment and automation of assembly tools. This role involves hands-on work in our laboratories to deliver automated hardware and software systems ready for use in manufacturing. The successful candidate should enjoy hands-on activities and have a relevant engineering degree.Responsibilities:Integrate and program new robotic systems for pick-and-place, lay-down and other assembly operationsDevelop automated processes and tools for the interconnection and packaging of high-efficiency solar cells Develop custom software to interface with and control assembly equipment and motion stagesDesign and implement automated test sequences for quality control and performance verification Design and fabricate mechanical fixtures and jigs using CAD and 3D printing to support assembly and testingContribute to the companys R&D projectsWrite technical documentation, process specifications and test reportsRequired skills/experience:Degree in robotics, mechatronics, mechanical or manufacturing engineering; or a related disciplineExperience with automated assembly equipment (e.g. robotic arms)Strong programming skills (e.g. Python) for hardware control and automationProficiency in CAD software (e.g. SolidWorks) and mechanical designHands-on experience in a workshop, manufacturing or laboratory environmentAbility to work under own initiative and manage workload to meet tight project deadlinesEligible to work in the UKDesirable skills/experience:Experience with industrial automation software and control systems Experience developing GUIs for equipment control or manufacturing dashboardsKnowledge of machine vision systems for automated inspectionKnowledge of electronic component and solar cell assembly techniquesHands-on experience in welding and/or soldering techniquesFamiliarity with space industry standards or Assembly, Integration and Test (AIT) principlesBenefits: Competitive salaryWorkplace pensionAccess to tennis court and table tennis on-siteOn-site facilities (kitchen, changing rooms, showers)Great location in the Oxford Science Park
