An esteemed construction consultancy is seeking to appoint an accomplished Building Services Cost / Commercial Manager to strengthen its established MEP cost management team in Oxford. This appointment presents an exceptional opportunity for an experienced Commercial Manager or Quantity Surveyor with proven expertise in mechanical and electrical systems to contribute to prestigious and technically complex developments. You will play a pivotal role in the delivery of commercial management services across a diverse portfolio of sectors, including private residential, higher education, heritage, and commercial projects. Operating between site and the consultancys head office, you will collaborate with a highly skilled team of MEP cost managers and estimators, with the prospect of long-term career progression within a respected professional practice. Key Responsibilities Carry out the commercial review of MEP work packages, challenging recommendations and identifying best value. Prepare cost reports on MEP packages for client agreement and sign-off. Liaise with main contractors and subcontractors to identify affordable solutions. Assess potential cost increases and design impacts, providing budget assessments and advising the commercial lead. Undertake monthly valuations, review supporting information, and agree valuations with contractors. Where required, measure mechanical and electrical (M&E) systems, apply rates, and build complete cost reports. What Were Looking For Confident working within the mechanical and electrical (M&E) environment. Strong understanding of M&E systems, components, and how they are delivered on site. Knowledge of procurement strategies, including plant/equipment vs. subcontract procurement. Ability to measure M&E systems to check and challenge contractor costs. Experienced in preparing and agreeing monthly valuations and commercial reports. Skilled at verifying and interrogating contractor commercial reports. At least 5 years experience as a Quantity Surveyor or Commercial Manager in the construction sector, ideally within building services. Computer literate, with experience using Excel, Blue Beam, and similar tools. Strong communication skills, self-motivated, enthusiastic, and able to work independently.
