Job Description

Role OverviewWe are looking for an Electrical Quantity Surveyor in Glasgow with a background in high voltage substations, switchgear, or cable installation projects. This role will focus on the commercial management of HV electrical projects — primarily substations, cable systems, and associated electrical infrastructure. You’ll play a key role in cost control, contract administration, valuations, and overall project financial governance.Key ResponsibilitiesDevelop and manage budgets, BOQs, profit plans, and commercial reportsLead and contribute to interim commercial meetings with clients and internal stakeholdersOversee subcontractor accounts, including valuations and final accountsEnsure payment applications, certificates, and retentions align with contract termsIssue accurate interim and final accounts in accordance with contract obligationsTrack and manage project changes, site variations, dayworks, and claimsIdentify commercial risks and escalate promptly to senior managementWork closely with Planning Engineers to ensure cost/programme alignmentNegotiate with clients or their representatives as neededMaintain accurate records to support commercial performance and decision-makingWork independently and efficiently, delivering timely and accurate informationRequirementsDegree in Quantity Surveying / Construction Economics or similarProven experience on HV projects, particularly in substations or similar electrical worksStrong understanding of contract conditions and commercial processesAdvanced Excel skills and general proficiency in reporting toolsExcellent communication and interpersonal skillsDetail-oriented with strong organisational and administrative capabilitiesDesirable BackgroundTechnical experience as an Electrician, Electrical Engineer, or Instrumentation TechnicianExperience with cost control for dayworks, remeasured works, and on-site variationsFamiliarity with the preparation of claims, escalations, and interim valuationsUnderstanding of scheduling and its commercial implications
