Job Description Job Title: Principal Designer Location: Client Site (Midlands)Reports to: DirectorSalary: Competitive and based on experienceWe are seeking an experienced Principal Designer (CDM 2015) to support a major client site in the Midlands. This role requires strong technical competence, excellent communication skills, and the ability to coordinate design risk management across multiple contractors and stakeholders.Applicants must be capable of working independently and maintaining the high standards expected within the organisation.The Company DM Safety & Health Services is an independent national health and safety consultancy based in the North West. This is an exceptional opportunity to enhance our clients industry-leading health and safety culture by providing outstanding on-site support and expert advice.Key ResponsibilitiesDesign Risk ManagementLead the planning, management, and monitoring of the preconstruction phase in line with CDM 2015.Identify, eliminate, and reduce foreseeable design risks throughout the project lifecycle.Coordinate design risk reviews and ensure designers comply with their duties.CDM Compliance & DocumentationDevelop, review, and update PreConstruction Information (PCI) and ensure it is issued to all relevant parties.Review and comment on contractor RAMS, ensuring alignment with design intent and risk controls.Prepare and manage the Health & Safety File, ensuring all required information is collected and maintained.Site Coordination & OversightCarry out and record site inspections to verify that design risk controls are implemented.Liaise with the Principal Contractor to ensure safe planning and sequencing of works.Monitor compliance with approved method statements and design risk mitigation measures.Stakeholder EngagementAct as the key point of contact for the client on all CDM and designrelated matters.Facilitate communication between designers, contractors, and the client team.Provide clear, timely updates on design risks, changes, and compliance issues.Quality, Safety & ReportingConduct quality and safety inspections relating to design implementation. Review and check design drawings, specifications, and reports for CDM compliance. Maintain accurate records of design decisions, risk assessments, and coordination activities.Qualifications & ExperienceMinimum 5 years experience in a CDM, design management, or construction H&S role. Strong working knowledge of CDM 2015 and relevant legislation.Experience coordinating multidisciplinary design teams.Project management and commercial management experience.NEBOSH Construction or equivalent H&S qualification.
