Design Manager:Role PurposeOur client a regional contractor with a strong presence in the Merseyside area. You will be responsible for leading and coordinating the design process across all stages of project development, ensuring that design deliverables are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest standards of quality. This role will involve close collaboration with clients, consultants, contractors, and internal project teams to deliver efficient, buildable, and compliant design solutions.Key ResponsibilitiesLead and manage the design process from pre-construction through delivery.Coordinate input from architects, consultants, and specialist designers to ensure design information is accurate and aligned with project requirements.Ensure designs meet compliance standards, including UK Building Regulations, planning, fire safety, sustainability, and accessibility requirements.Manage design risks, value engineering, and buildability reviews to optimise cost and programme outcomes.Prepare and maintain design programmes, trackers, and deliverables schedules.Review drawings, specifications, and technical submissions to ensure clarity, consistency, and compliance.Liaise with clients, end users, and stakeholders to incorporate feedback into the design.Work closely with construction teams to resolve technical issues during build phases.Oversee design handover packages and ensure all O&M information is delivered.Qualifications & ExperienceDegree in Architecture, Engineering, Construction Management, or equivalent discipline.Proven experience as a Design Manager or Senior Design Coordinator on projects up to £10 million.Strong knowledge of design standards and statutory requirements within education, healthcare, and commercial sectors.Experience working for a main contractor, design & build contractor, or multidisciplinary consultancy.Skilled in design coordination, stakeholder management, and risk management.Strong communication, negotiation, and leadership skills.Key CompetenciesAttention to detail with a proactive problem-solving mindset.Ability to manage multiple projects concurrently.Commercial awareness with an understanding of cost drivers.Collaborative approach with strong team leadership.Commitment to sustainability and innovation in design.Package & BenefitsCompetitive salary (£65,000–£70,000 depending on experience).Car allowance or travel expenses.Pension scheme, healthcare, and bonus potential.Professional development and training opportunities.Career progression within a growing regional contractor.
