Job:Electoral Support Assistant Location:Northumberland County Council Band:£13.26 - £13.47 per hour Hours:37 per week (flexible working may apply) Contract:Staff Bank - 17 thOctober 2025 to January 31 st2026 Northumberland County Council are looking to add Electoral SupportAssistants to our Staff Bank to provide vital administrative and clerical support within our Elections Team. This is an exciting opportunity to support the democratic process and play a key part in delivering electoral services across the county. About the Role As an Electoral Support Assistant, you will: Handle customer enquiries by phone, email and in person, ensuring a high standard of customer service. Maintain large and complex databases such as the Electoral Management and Registration Systems, ensuring information is accurate, secure and GDPR compliant. Assist with postal vote and proxy vote applications, following procedures to prevent fraud. Support the preparation of key documentation for elections. Manage incoming and outgoing post, including handling cheques in line with financial procedures. Operate general office equipment, maintain supplies and provide a range of office support services. Work flexibly, including late evenings and weekends during election periods. About You We're looking for someone with: A good general education demonstrating literacy and numeracy. Experience of working in a busy customer service or administrative role. The ability to work accurately with personal and sensitive information. Strong IT skills with experience using databases, spreadsheets and email systems. A calm and systematic approach to working under pressure and meeting deadlines. It would also be great if you have: Knowledge of the democratic process or previous experience in elections. An understanding of data protection requirements. A clean driving license and access to a vehicle. Please note:This role will involve unsocial hours during election periods and some travel across the county.
