Job Description

This is an exciting opportunity to join a developing new service aimed at improving the well-being and psychological functioning of young people at Oakhill STC. The service provides weekly individual and group therapy sessions to young people aged 12 to 18 years of age with an offending history. You will utilise a variety of psychological interventions for both the young person and family members including the SECURE STAIRS framework. The post holder will be involved in assessments of young people and delivering both individual and group-based work. Treatment formulations will follow a highly structured treatment framework and involve a thorough diagnostic assessment process. The role also involves providing specialist consultation to staff and supporting them in working with young people. Clinical Duties: To provide specialist psychological assessments of children and young people referred to the teams based upon the appropriate use, interpretation, and integration of complex data from a variety of sources The communication of highly complex information and diagnostic outcomes to parents/carers, young people, and other professionals in a sensitive manner. To join in on other clinicians assessments or contribute to the assessments of children in care wherever indicated To develop psychological formulations of presenting problems or situations that integrate information from assessments within a coherent framework that draws upon psychological theory and evidence, and which incorporates interpersonal, societal, cultural and biological factors To develop and implement plans for the formal psychological treatment and/or management of the child or young person, based upon an appropriate conceptual framework of their problems, and employing methods based upon evidence of efficacy, across the full range of environmental settings To be responsible for implementing a range of psychological interventions for children/young people, their families, carers, teachers, or support workers, adjusting and refining psychological formulations drawing upon different explanatory models and maintaining a number of provisional hypotheses To evaluate and make decisions about treatment options taking into account both theoretical and therapeutic models and highly complex factors concerning historical and developmental processes that have shaped the child/young person, their family or carers Where indicated, will support transitions of children in care to and from inpatient settings, inter-placement transitions and to adult mental health services by means of multiagency care planning for the benefit of children in care The post holder will be an active member of the multidisciplinary team and therefore attend multidisciplinary team meetings and provide advice and support to the team To actively engage in links with other parts of Child & Adolescent Mental Health Services, Primary Care Services, Social Services and other agencies relevant to the services To maintain skills and knowledge of child protection procedures from the Local Safeguarding Children Board and ensure training in this area for assistant psychologists in the team. To develop skills in the area professional post-graduate teaching, training and supervision and to provide supervision to other MDT staffs psychological work as appropriate To provide specialist psychological advice guidance and consultation to other professionals contributing directly to a shared formulation, diagnosis and treatment plan Assess newly allocated cases and formulate appropriate treatment plans in collaboration with colleagues in other disciplines Complete relevant paperwork, including maintaining the electronic record and participating in routine outcome monitoring of clinical work Qualifications Must hold a Doctoral degree in Psychology (Clinical, Educational, or Child Psychology preferred). Registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) as a Practitioner Psychologist Experience of Safeguarding Children framework Experience in multi-disciplinary teaching Ability to work within a multi-disciplinary team Capacity to respond positively to the changing environment Minimum of 2 years experience in therapeutic service Minimum of 2 years experience in Health and Social Care Minimum of 2 years experience working with children and young people TPBN1_UKTJ
