Your contribution will help build a lasting digital legacy that supports safer seas and more effective emergency response worldwide.What are we looking for?We’re looking for someone with experience in implementing Learning Management Systems, ideally using Moodle or a similar open-source platform. You should have a solid understanding of LMS architecture, user role configuration, and course structure design, as well as the ability to manage the technical aspects of installation, customisation, and deployment. Strong project management skills are essential, including the ability to create timelines, track deliverables, and coordinate with multiple stakeholders. Experience working with online learning content, assessment tools, or multilingual platforms is a bonus. You should be self-motivated, organised, and comfortable working independently in a remote, international team environment. A passion for learning, digital education, or global humanitarian work will help you thrive in this role.What will you be doing?The Maritime Search and Rescue Council (MSARC) is seeking a skilled and motivated Volunteer LMS Designer/Project Manager to lead the end-to-end planning, design, and implementation of a new Learning Management System (LMS). This is a unique opportunity to shape a new global training platform that will support search and rescue professionals around the world. What will you do?You will take ownership of the full project lifecycle for implementing a free-to-use LMS—preferably Moodle—to host MSARC’s growing suite of training programmes and e-learning resources. Key responsibilities include Scoping and requirements gathering – Work with internal stakeholders and subject-matter experts to identify key training needs, platform features, and user requirements Technical planning and system design – Define the LMS architecture, user roles, course structures, and integration needs (e.g. video, assessment tools, multilingual support) Platform selection and configuration – Install, configure, and customise Moodle (or a comparable open-source LMS) to meet project needs, ensuring a user-friendly and accessible experience Content framework development – Collaborate with course creators to define how content will be uploaded, structured, and updated Project management – Create a detailed project plan with timelines, milestones, and key deliverables; manage risks, dependencies, and communications throughout Testing and launch – Oversee testing, gather feedback, resolve technical issues, and support a successful roll-out to target users Who will you work with?You’ll collaborate directly with MSARC’s Board and SAR Project Officer, and consult with global SAR professionals and technical advisors as needed.
