We manage and maintain over 2,000km of Scotlands trunk road network, tackling just about every imaginable task and working round the clock to help keep Scotland moving.The South East Trunk Road Unit spans 506km through some of the busiest sections of the country, from central Scotland to through the Scottish Borders. Trunk roads in the South East range from the major multi-lane motorways across the central belt to roads through villages in the borders.We have vacancies for HGV Drivers / Highway Maintenance Operatives to join our existing operations team. You will report to Operations Supervisor and Operations Manager and will be responsible to help keeping Scotland moving.Responsibilities and ActivitiesWinter maintenance duties which include fitting gritter body and blade, driving gritter and spread salt by hand if required.Winter maintenance rota during the winter months driving our state-of-the-art snow ploughs, when conditions dictate.Responsibility for the health and safety of the public, colleagues and yourself.Carriageway patchingTraffic sign erectionDrainage worksFootway improvementsTraffic managementCyclic duties such as grip cleaning, sign washing and gully cleaningPrepare written returns including fault report details.Knowledge, Skills and ExperienceHGV LicenceKnowledge of the requirement for Health and Safety rules and procedures.Previous experience as a roadworker is desirable, however training can be provided.There is a requirement to undertake training and to achieve competence in aspects of the job.Physically fit for working in sometimes arduous conditions.Experience of using small plant.Holding tickets for plant, traffic management, and Health and Safety an advantage.Why BEAR?We believe that the people who work with us are our greatest asset and, for us to succeed, we make sure we retain and attract a talented, innovative and dedicated team.
