Job Description

Saint Mary's at Wythenshawe Hospital is seeking to recruit a Coordinator for the Overseas Visitors and Chargeable Patients Service. You will be responsible for identifying patients who may not be entitled to NHS treatment free at source and ensuring they receive accurate information regarding the cost of their treatment. The role covers all services within Saint Mary's Managed Clinic Service. You will regularly communicate with patients, trust staff, and external stakeholders through email, letters, face-to-face meetings, telephone, and video calls. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential. Strong organisational skills and attention to detail are crucial, as you will manage your own caseload and maintain accurate records. You will use IT systems including Hive and MS Office applications, so good IT literacy is required. The role may involve exposure to distressing situations. While supported by the team, high resilience is needed to investigate and resolve issues with empathy and a non-judgemental approach. Flexibility is important, as there may be a need to cover workloads across the Managed Clinical Service and occasional travel to other sites within MFT for training and meetings. You will need to understand and comply with the Department of Health Overseas Hospital Charging Regulations. The role involves assessing patients and relatives to establish entitlement to NHS-funded care or liability for costs. Responsibilities include interviewing patients, gathering documentation, running reports, and maintaining records in line with national policy. You will raise invoices, respond to queries and complaints via email, face-to-face, letters, and phone calls. Liaising with trust staff and external bodies such as the Home Office and immigration services to identify overseas status and NHS eligibility is also part of the role. You will meet regularly with your line manager to review cases and reports. With support, you will develop your knowledge of charging regulations. MFT is one of the largest NHS trusts in England, with a turnover of over £3bn. We serve over 1 million patients annually, bringing together 10 hospitals and community services across Manchester, Trafford, and beyond. We promote collaborative working and transformation, encouraging our 30,000 staff to pursue ambitious goals. Our organisation is digitally enabled, with systems like Hive, launched in September 2022, to improve clinical quality, patient and staff experience, and operational effectiveness. We are also a major academic research and education centre, supporting high-quality research programs. Additionally, we are committed to sustainability through our Green Plan. At MFT, we foster a culture of inclusion and belonging, providing equal opportunities for career development, and prioritising health and wellbeing. Join us in shaping the future of healthcare.
