Street Works Inspector / Highways TechnicianBelow, you will find a complete breakdown of everything required of potential candidates, as well as how to apply Good luck.Local Authority | East LondonA large public-sector organisation in East London is seeking an experienced Street Works Inspector / Highways Technician to support the management and enforcement of street works across the local highway network.This is a hands-on role working closely with utility companies to ensure works, reinstatements and traffic management are delivered in line with statutory requirements, minimising disruption and maintaining public safety.Assignment DetailsContract length: 10 months (ongoing)Pay rate: 30.27 per hour (Umbrella)Hours: 36 hours per weekLocation: Leyton, East London (site-based)Closing date: 20 February 2026The RoleReporting into the Highways team, the post holder will be responsible for inspecting and monitoring street works and highway activities carried out by utility companies and contractors under the New Roads and Street Works Act 1991 (NRSWA).You will manage your own programme of inspections and enforcement actions, ensuring compliance with legislation, codes of practice and safety standards while supporting the effective operation of the road network.Key ResponsibilitiesInspect utility street works and reinstatements to ensure compliance with NRSWA and relevant Codes of PracticeMonitor safety, performance and quality of works on the highway networkTake enforcement action where required to address non-complianceAttend site meetings to agree traffic management and reinstatement proposals for major worksAssess and monitor Red Book traffic management arrangementsSupport the issuing and monitoring of highway licences (e.g. scaffolding, hoardings)Accurately record inspections and actions using handheld devices and street works systemsWork independently to manage workloads and meet statutory deadlinesSkills xjdpvnf & ExperienceEssential:Proven experience within a local authority, council or housing association environmentStrong knowledge of street works practices, procedures and legislationNRSWA Supervisor accreditationFull UK driving licence and access to your own vehicleExperience working directly with utility companies and contractorsDesirable:Experience using Symology or other Street Manager-compatible systemsGood IT skills, including Microsoft OfficeStrong organisational and time-management skills Linsco is acting as an Employment Business in relation to this vacancy
