Group Safety, Security, Health & Environment Analyst: Vacancy Details Duration:2 year FTC Location:Waterloo /London Salary:£30,000 to £35,000 depending on skills, experience and internal alignment. Reporting to -Group Safety, Security, Health & Environement Director Benefits: Annual Leave: Starting at 25 days and rising to an additional day per year of service completed within the first 5 completed years up to a maximum of 5 additional (30 days) DC Pension Scheme: 10% Employer contribution, 5% Employee contribution Opportunities to learn and network across the wider industry About DFT Operator DFTO is the government’s public sector rail owning group. Its purpose is to bring all currently privately-owned train operators into public ownership in advance of the creation of Great British Railways in 2027 - and deliver improvements in the here and now by unifying and integrating train operations under common public ownership. DFTO has over 23,000 employees, runs over 6,000 services a day and delivers over 450 million customer journeys across its networks every year. This accounts for 26% of total UK passenger journeys and 30% of passenger miles. Major improvements are being delivered by DFTO train operators (TOCs) that are already under public ownership - these are LNER, Northern, TransPennine Express (TPE), Southeastern and South Western Railway (SWR). Key Competencies: Ability to analyse safety, health, and environment (SHE) data, identify trends, and produce management reports. Experience in developing, tracking, and evaluating key performance indicators (KPIs) and industry benchmarks. Skills in validating and assuring the accuracy and integrity of safety data. Understanding of rail industry safety regulations, standards, and best practices. Ability to engage with internal teams, TOCs, and external stakeholders to share best practices and support safety initiatives. High level of accuracy in data analysis, reporting, and assurance activities. Strong organizational skills to support group-wide initiatives, transition processes, and committee meetings. Excellent written and verbal communication skills for management reports, meeting preparation, and recommendations. Key Responsibilities: Undertake analysis of Group TOC and rail industry safety, health & environment indicators, metrics and benchmarking to produce management reports to time and of the required standard. Support the Group Safety, Security, Health & Environment Director with general administration, calendar management, meeting preparation and briefing, particularly in respect of their role chairing quarterly TOC SHE Committee meetings. Support the development and implementation of key performance indicators, targets and metrics for safety, health & environment performance across Group TOCs, whilst respecting each TOC’s bespoke safety management system and their responsibility for TOC safety, priorities and risk profiles Contribute to the development of data collection methodologies and assurance mechanisms, co-ordinating Group wide activities, encouraging data sharing, best practice and rail industry collaboration. Undertake data assurance activities; verify data requirements undertake analysis, review and interpret analysis, support Group audit activity relating to Safety, Security, Health & Environmental matters and make recommendations. Working with other DfTO teams gather safety, security, health & environmental data regarding new TOCs joining the Group, and assist the teams in such TOCs with their transition to the Group, Undertake information management and record-keeping. Provide timely responses to enquiries and requests. Deliver data analysis projects within time, quality and cost parameters. Support project delivery, including monitoring and reporting on progress and generating project documentation. Knowledge, Skills, Experience & Technical Qualifications: Excellent communication and analytical skills, with proven ability to present information effectively and appropriately. Excellent general IT skills. Experience of extracting information and reporting from multiple sources, including databases. Experience of dealing with customers effectively. Educated to GCSE level or equivalent relevant work experience.
