Barts Health NHS Trust is seeking to appoint a substantive Consultant in General Gastroenterology.We are looking for a dynamic and innovative Consultant with strong clinical leadership skills and a passion for driving improvement in gastroenterology to join our friendly, forward‑looking, and high‑performing team.A subspecialist interest in an area of gastroenterology is desirable, though not essential.This is a 10 PA role based at Newham University Hospital (NUH). The post will support inpatient and outpatient gastroenterology care, including endoscopy and general gastroenterology clinics.The successful applicant will participate in the GI bleed out‑of‑hours rota at Newham and will support the delivery of a gastroenterology consultant of the week, involving review of in‑patients and administrative work including referrals and vetting of requests. In addition to clinical responsibilities, the consultant will contribute to clinical governance, audit, departmental management, and the ongoing development and improvement of clinical pathways. ResponsibilitiesDay‑to‑day clinical care of inpatients on the base ward Lead daily board rounds and twice‑weekly MDMs on the base ward Daily review of new and sick patients on the base ward Undertake administrative work relevant to your clinical commitment Participation in departmental teaching, clinical governance and service development Cover for colleagues during periods of absence and flexibility to work across all clinical areas as needed Participation in undergraduate and postgraduate training Commitment to maintaining personal CPD Engagement with Trust requirements for appraisal and revalidationQualifications Applicants must be on the GMC Specialist Register or within six months of attaining their CCT at the time of interview.Newly appointed consultants will be supported by a structured mentoring programme and will be encouraged to contribute to teaching, research and service development.Barts Health is committed to supporting new consultants in their transition into post and fostering a culture of inclusion, development and continuous learning.
