Principal Consultant - Freshwater Fisheries

What you’ll be doingLeading a diverse portfolio of freshwater fisheries and multidisciplinary projectsSetting technical direction across fisheries surveys, assessments and mitigation designWorking closely with clients to understand challenges and provide clear, practical adviceManaging complex projects from early-stage opportunities through to deliveryLeading and contributing to tenders, including defining scope and setting budgetsBuilding and strengthening long-term client relationshipsMentoring, supporting and line managing Senior Consultants and ScientistsReviewing technical outputs and ensuring high standards across the teamIdentifying opportunities for growth and supporting the expansion of APEM’s fisheries servicesCollaborating across disciplines to deliver integrated environmental solutionsWhat we’re looking forYou’ll need to bring:Strong experience in freshwater fisheries ecology and ecological assessment, ideally within consultancyExtensive experience designing and delivering fisheries surveysDeep knowledge of aquatic ecology and relevant UK legislation (e.g. WFD, EIA, HRA)Proven ability to lead complex projects and manage competing prioritiesStrong client-facing experience and the ability to provide clear, confident adviceExperience mentoring, supporting or managing othersExcellent communication and relationship-building skillsIt’s a bonus if you haveChartered status or working towards professional accreditationStrong experience leading tenders and winning workExperience working on large, multidisciplinary or high-profile projectsNext stepsWe are focused on creating a diverse and inclusive team.
