The Learning & Development Lead (Operations) will play a pivotal role in building capability, compliance, and a culture of continuous improvement across our operational teams. With end-to-end ownership of the learning cycle, from needs analysis through to evaluation, this new role ensures that our people are trained, competent, and supported to deliver operational excellence. Partnering with the Operations Leadership Team, this role will design impactful programmes, embed compliance, and measure the return on investment of training initiatives. Key Responsibilities Training Strategy & Delivery Own the full operational learning cycle: analyse needs, design solutions, deliver training, and measure impact. Deliver engaging face-to-face training, supported by effective use of our Learning Management System (LMS) and digital learning tools. Champion collaboration, influence change, and partner with operational leaders to embed learning into daily practices. Explore innovative training methods to drive engagement and efficiency, balancing classroom, on-the-job, and digital approaches Benchmark internal practices against industry standards and share insights to continuously raise the bar. 2. Compliance & Training Matrix Develop and embed a robust training matrix that ensures compliance with BRC, HSE, and operational requirements. Manage and report on training compliance, providing data-driven insights to track progress, demonstrate ROI, and drive improvements in completion and engagement. Maintain accurate, up-to-date training records for employees and ensure agency staff meet minimum BRC training requirements (e.g., allergens, hygiene, PPE). 3. Document Control & Standards Facilitate the creation and maintenance of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) that are practical, detailed, and embedded within operational practice. Partner with leadership and SMEs to ensure training documents, policies, and SOPs are accurate, current, and regulatory compliant. Continuously evaluate effectiveness of training, using data to measure ROI and drive improvement. 4. Tools & Support Materials Design and develop practical learning tools, resources, and support materials to aid managers and employees in embedding training into day-to-day operations. Provide managers with toolkits to support coaching, on-the-job training, and performance conversations. 5. Risk Management & Continuous Improvement Support ongoing risk assessment reviews, ensuring suitable controls and procedures are in place and effectively communicated through training and SOPs. Facilitate the creation and updating of SOPs in collaboration with subject matter experts. Use data and feedback to evaluate training effectiveness, identify areas for improvement, and introduce new and innovative learning solutions. Explore and champion better ways of delivering learning to enhance both compliance and colleague development. Act as a champion of best practice, setting the standard for what good looks like in operational learning and compliance. 6. People Development & Stakeholder Partnership Partner with the Operations Leadership Team to understand capability gaps and workforce priorities. Contribute to the creation of on-the-job competency-based assessments to support employee growth and performance reviews. Champion a culture of growth, accountability, and operational excellence through learning. Coach and support managers to embed learning and development within their teams. Work in partnership with the People Team to deliver L&D initiatives across wider business as needed. Skills, Experience & Attributes Proven Learning & Development experience, ideally in operational, food manufacturing, or regulated environments. Strong track record in face-to-face training delivery, with the ability to engage, influence, and inspire colleagues at all levels. Experience managing LMS platforms and delivering blended learning solutions. Knowledge of compliance frameworks (BRC, HSE) and experience in developing training matrices. Skilled in reporting and data analysis, with the ability to measure ROI and demonstrate impact. Excellent communication, facilitation, and coaching skills. Highly collaborative, with a continuous improvement mindset. Able to work shifts as needed to engage colleagues across our Operation.
