Job descriptionJunior Clinical Fellow (ST1-2) in Cardiology and Cardiac Surgery at The Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, Yorkshire Heart Centre, Leeds General Infirmary. Fixed term contract commences August 2026 and ends August 2027. Applicants must be fully registered with the General Medical Council and hold a licence to practice by the intended start date. Job responsibilitiesWard duties in Cardiac Surgery and Cardiology units, providing inpatient care on the cardiology admissions unit and bed base. Perform and observe cardiology and cardiac surgery specific skills, including cardioversion, central venous access, CCU care, clinics, cardiac catheter lab and theatre observation and imaging. Commit to a 1:11 full‑shift LST cardiology/surgery on‑call rota, supported by a resident full‑shift HST Cardiology rota and bi‑daily consultant ward rounds. Collaborate with foundation year doctors, IMT 1‑2 doctors and Advanced Care Practitioners within a large tertiary cardiac centre. Qualifications & requirementsEssential Full GMC registration and current licence to practise at time of appointment. Previous UK clinical experience as a medical practitioner (not solely clinical attachments or observer roles). Achievement of Foundation competencies from a UKFPO affiliated Foundation Programme or equivalent by time of appointment. Demonstrable written and spoken English communication skills adequate for patient interaction. Current ALS certification or equivalent. Clear interest in sustained training in Cardiology / Cardiac Surgery. Ability to lead, organise and motivate team members through audit, quality improvement projects and teaching courses. Probity demonstrating honesty, integrity, ethical awareness and respect for confidentiality. Evidence of formal teaching experience, preferably with feedback. Desirable Previous experience in medicine or cardiology with consistent career progression. Attainment of relevant postgraduate examinations (MRCP Part 1, MRCS Part A or equivalents). Experience of research, ideally publications or presentations. Teaching courses or training involvement.
