MTrecs new career opportunity Our client are specialists in their market sector, they are now looking to recruit a Specialist Welding and Fabrication Estimator on a permanent basis. The Job youll do Estimate Preparation: Analyse incoming Requests for Quote, technical drawings, and welding specifications to prepare detailed fabrication cost estimates. Specialised Welding Costing: Identify all necessary materials (S690QL, duplex, Inconel, etc.), welding joint types (full-penetration welds, purged welds), and compute costs considering complexity of high performance materials, distortion mitigation, and code compliance. Incorporation of Post-Weld Operations: Include costs and time for post-weld machining, and NDT in estimates. ERP System Utilisation: Input/manage estimate data in the ERP system for quoting and job tracking, ensuring consistency and accuracy. Cross-Department Collaboration: Work with Purchasing, Engineering, and Production to refine estimates and execution plans, coordinating for material costs, design, and shop capabilities. Welding Section Support: Oversee and support the welding section, providing technical guidance, weld sequencing, and troubleshooting support. Quality and Standards Compliance: Ensure compliance with ISO 3834 and other welding standards; include QA checks, WPS/PQR compliance, and inspection requirements in project planning. Distortion Control Planning: Incorporate welding distortion control methods into estimates and plans; apply techniques such as back-step welding, balanced welding, and fixturing. Continuous Improvement: Review project outcomes vs. estimates; refine estimating models and maintain accuracy metrics over time. About You Time-served welder/fabricator or equivalent experience; background in subsea, oil & gas, or high-spec fabrication desirable. Proficiency in MIG, TIG, FCAW; deep knowledge of welding S690QL, duplex, Inconel and their challenges. Strong skills in reading engineering drawings, weld symbols, GD&T (Geometric dimensioning and tolerancing). Understanding of cutting, bending, machining, and their impact on welding. Knowledge of ISO 3834 required; familiarity with ASME IX, AWS D1.1,EN standards. NDT and Inspection Knowledge: Understanding of UT, RT, MT, PT testing methods and when to apply them. Proficiency with ERP/MRP systems and estimating tools for job costing and quote preparation. Strong calculation skills for weld sizes, labour hours, and project costing. Excellent communication for cross-team and client interaction. Accuracy in interpreting specifications and preparing estimates.
