Maintenance Technician (Mechanical Bias / Multi-Skilled) Salary: 44,116 (Inc. Shift allowance) + Annual Bonus Location: Gateshead Job Type: Full Time, Permanent (Continental 4-Shift Rotation) An established industrial company is seeking an experienced Maintenance Technician with a mechanical bias or multi-skilled background to join their growing Maintenance Department. The company operates in the heavy engineering sector. Following a period of record-breaking success, they are expanding their maintenance team to support ongoing growth. Key Responsibilities: Carry out preventative and reactive maintenance on plant machinery and equipment in a heavy engineering environment. Support installation, commissioning, and upgrades of mechanical equipment. Ensure compliance with health and safety standards, permits, and procedures at all times. Diagnose mechanical faults, identify root causes, and communicate findings to relevant teams. Work collaboratively with the maintenance team and external contractors to minimise equipment downtime. Handover incomplete tasks at the end of each shift to maintain operational continuity. Contribute to safety improvements and maintain adherence to company policies. Record maintenance activities accurately and consult technical manuals, drawings, and documentation as required. Person Specification: Educated to ONC/OND/HND/HNC/NVQ III or equivalent in Mechanical or Maintenance Engineering. Proven experience in mechanical fault-finding, maintenance, and repair within heavy engineering environments . Knowledge of hydraulic, pneumatic, and mechanical systems in large-scale machinery. Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to work independently or as part of a team. Ability to prioritise tasks effectively in a demanding, fast-paced environment. Willingness to work at height and follow strict safety procedures. Desirable Skills: Experience with large rotating equipment, pumps, compressors, and gearboxes. Knowledge of welding, fabrication, and crane maintenance. Familiarity with condition monitoring, vibration analysis, or thermography. Ability to operate MEWPs or forklifts.
