Fabrication/Production Manager Location: South Tyneside Industry: Fabrication / Manufacturing Salary: Competitive + Benefits Contract: Permanent - Days Monday to Friday An established and forward-thinking manufacturing organisation is seeking a dynamic Fabrication Manager to lead a key operational department. This is a pivotal role for a hands-on, commercially minded leader with a strong engineering background and a passion for driving performance, inspiring teams, and delivering operational excellence. The Role The successful candidate will be responsible for the strategic and day-to-day management of a fabrication department, ensuring operational efficiency, high-quality output, and team development. Acting as a central figure in both the commercial and cultural growth of the department, the role will also involve direct engagement with customers and internal stakeholders. Key Responsibilities: Provide clear leadership to drive departmental growth, performance, and continuous improvement. Ensure all production and quality targets are consistently met or exceeded. Embed a culture of accountability and high performance through proactive mentoring and coaching. Lead daily production meetings, monitor KPIs, and implement lean methodologies to improve output and reduce waste. Attend customer meetings and contribute to business development initiatives, identifying opportunities in existing and emerging markets. Manage team performance including attendance, disciplinary matters, appraisals, and development planning. Champion staff development and succession planning to future-proof departmental capabilities. Ensure all machinery, tools, and safety protocols are up to standard and compliant with legislation. Oversee creation and improvement of work instructions, risk assessments, and procedures. Lead engineering projects from concept to completion using strong problem-solving and project management skills. Maintain full compliance with HSE legislation and ISO 9001 quality standards. The Ideal Candidate Proven track record in leading operational teams within fabrication or manufacturing environments. Strong commercial awareness with a balance of technical knowledge and business acumen. Experienced in supporting sales and customer engagement with technical and commercial insight. Strong understanding of fabrication processes, production planning, and quality control. Proficient in interpreting technical drawings and producing performance reports based on KPIs. Experienced in leading lean and continuous improvement initiatives. Confident, proactive, and results-driven with excellent communication and influencing skills. Strong organisational capabilities and meticulous attention to detail. Desirable: Familiarity with the road transport sector. Ideally be commercially astute, with experience in sales/Business development would be highly desirable. Working knowledge of ISO 9001 systems and compliance.
