Job Description Technical Author (Software / Insurance Platform)EssexIT Software / Insurance TechnologyWe are seeking an experienced Technical Author to take ownership of all technical and user-facing documentationThis is a client-facing role suited to someone who can confidently translate complex insurance processes and system functionality into clear, structured, high-quality documentation and training materials.Youll work closely with Business Analysts, Developers, Testers and Clients, playing a key role in ensuring our product documentation is accurate, consistent and aligned with industry standards.What Youll Be DoingCreating and maintaining system documentation including configuration guides, release notes, interface specifications and technical manualsProducing user training materials such as step-by-step guides, process walkthroughs, onboarding packs and e-learning contentDocumenting business and system workflows, functional behaviour and data mappings in collaboration with Business AnalystsTranslating complex technical and insurance concepts into accessible content for technical and non-technical audiencesEnsuring all new features, enhancements and fixes are fully documented prior to releaseManaging version control and maintaining documentation governance standardsDeveloping templates and structured documentation standards to improve consistencySupporting release management with clear, concise upgrade and release documentationMaintaining an organised and up-to-date documentation repositoryKnowledge & Experience RequiredProven experience in technical writing for software productsPrevious experience working for a software vendor (preferred)Understanding of the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC)Strong grasp of documentation best practices and structured authoringFamiliarity with documentation/help authoring tools such as MadCap, ClickHelp, Trainual or similarUnderstanding of the insurance lifecycle (quote, bind, issue, endorsements, renewals, claims)Knowledge of policy administration systems and insurance workflowsKey SkillsExcellent written English clear, precise and structuredAbility to quickly absorb and simplify complex informationStrong analytical thinking and curiosity about how systems workMeticulous attention to detailStrong organisational skills and ability to manage multiple documentation streamsConfident working with SMEs, developers, BAs and testers to gather accurate informationAbility to work independently and take ownership of deliverablesStrong communication skills suitable for client-facing interaction
