Job DescriptionRole OverviewOikos are seeking a proactive and hands-on Health & Safety Advisor to support our HSEQ Manager in ensuring the safe and compliant operation of our Upper Tier COMAH facility at Canvey Island, Essex, UK. The role has a strong focus on occupational health 'safety, while also contributing to process safety management and supporting continuous improvement across the site.The successful candidate will bring a practical approach to workplace safety, with the confidence to engage colleagues at all levels, and the technical knowledge to support regulatory compliance in a high-hazard industry.Key ResponsibilitiesSupport the implementation and monitoring of the companys Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality (HSEQ) management systems in line with COMAH, HSE, and EA requirements.Conduct workplace inspections, audits, and risk assessments, ensuring hazards are identified, controlled, and communicated effectively.Provide practical, hands-on support to line managers and employees on occupational health and safety matters.Assist in accident/incident investigations, ensuring root causes are identified and corrective actions implemented.Support the management of process safety elements, including permit-to-work systems, management of change, and emergency response preparedness.Develop and deliver toolbox talks, training sessions, and safety communications to enhance workforce competence and engagement.Maintain accurate safety records and contribute to regulatory reporting requirements.Actively contribute to the continuous improvement of site safety culture, driving initiatives that embed safe behaviours across all operations.Provide support during internal and external audits, inspections, and regulatory visits (HSE, EA, local authority).Qualifications & ExperienceNEBOSH National General Certificate (minimum) NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent desirable.Membership of IOSH (TechIOSH or higher).Previous experience in a high-hazard industry (e.g. bulk liquid storage, refining, petrochemicals, terminals, or similar).Strong knowledge of UK health 'safety legislation, COMAH regulations, and occupational safety practices.Experience in conducting incident investigations and risk assessments.Confident communicator with the ability to engage the workforce at all levels.Practical, hands-on approach with strong problem-solving skills.Computer literate with experience in using HSEQ systems and Microsoft Office.What We OfferCompetitive salary25 days annual leave, increasing with servicePension Scheme (5% employee + 10% company contributions)Private Medical InsuranceEmployee Assistance ProgrammeOpportunity to work in a safety-critical, high-profile COMAH facility.A collaborative and supportive working environment where safety is at the heart of everything we do.How to applyPlease submit your CV and a cover letter outlining your experience and suitability for the role viaemail to [email protected]
