Temporary Vineyard Work – Bud Rubbing Location: Colgate, RH12 Start Date: Either end of this week or Monday 30th June 2025 Duration: 2–3 days Hours: 8:00am – 4:30/5:00pm Pay: £13.68 per hour (inclusive of holiday pay) We are seeking 2–4 temporary workers to support a well-regarded vineyard during an important phase of the growing season. About the Role – What is Bud Rubbing? Bud rubbing is a vital vineyard task that involves removing unwanted or excess buds and shoots from the lower parts of the vine. If left in place, these can draw energy away from the main fruiting areas and negatively impact the quality and yield of the grapes. This work must be done carefully and precisely, as incorrect technique can damage the vines. For this reason, previous bud rubbing experience is essential. Key Responsibilities: Manually removing non-productive buds from the trunk and lower shoots Working row by row, handling each vine with care Maintaining accuracy and speed while working outdoors Adhering to vineyard guidelines for vine health and maintenance Requirements: Previous bud rubbing experience is essential Physically fit and happy working outdoors in all weather Good attention to detail and careful handling Must have your own transport – the vineyard is not accessible via public transport Reliable, punctual, and able to work independently or in a small team This is a fantastic opportunity to work in a beautiful vineyard setting and contribute to the early care of this season’s grape crop.
