Contributing Photo EditorLondon (Hybrid) | Approx. £44,000 | PAYE Contract Job SummaryA global media and design team is seeking a Photo Editor to join their International Editorial Design division. This high-impact creative team supports content design across various media platforms, conceptualizing and delivering engaging visual experiences for a wide range of digital products — including music, video, books, podcasts, and app content.This role requires someone who thrives in fast-paced, deadline-driven environments. Strong communication skills, resourcefulness, adaptability, and an eye for detail are essential. You'll need to be comfortable navigating shifting priorities, learning new tools quickly, and managing multiple workflows simultaneously.The ideal candidate will have a strong background in photo research and a keen sense of visual storytelling. They should be passionate about photography in all its forms — from portraiture and fashion to conceptual and archival — and skilled in identifying and licensing the right image to bring a narrative to life. Strong knowledge of licensing, budgeting, contract negotiation, and retouching oversight is critical.This is a full-time freelance position requiring dedication to high standards of quality and creativity.Key ResponsibilitiesResearch, curate, and license imagery for use across digital media platforms serving audiences in EMEA and APAC regions.Proactively identify potential challenges in the creative and production process, and offer effective solutions.Manage seasonal budgets and negotiate fees with external agencies, photographers, and artists.Track and archive visual assets, licensing details, and fee agreements accurately and consistently.Maintain a strong roster of external collaborators (photographers, image libraries, agencies) to support various creative needs.Oversee and art direct retouching processes to ensure high-quality image delivery.Work cross-functionally with design, editorial, and production teams to deliver compelling visual narratives.Key QualificationsDeep understanding and passion for visual storytelling across cultures and formats.Familiarity with current visual trends and image aesthetics.5+ years of relevant experience in photo editing, multimedia production, or art direction within a creatively driven environment (e.g. advertising, publishing, entertainment, or creative agencies).Extensive knowledge of photographers and photo genres, including portraiture, documentary, fine art, still life, fashion, and conceptual work.Skilled in sourcing photography from various types of providers — stock libraries, boutique agencies, archives, galleries, and estates.Strong grasp of licensing rights, likeness usage, legal clearances, and content agreements.Excellent organizational and communication skills.Proficient in tools such as Excel/Numbers, Keynote, Adobe Photoshop, and other Creative Cloud applications.Team-oriented, highly collaborative, and committed to building strong working relationships.Additional RequirementsPortfolio showcasing relevant work is required.Bachelor's degree in Photography, Graphic Design, Communication Design, or a related field preferred.Advanced knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite.Proficiency in additional languages is a plus.
