An exciting secondment opportunity has arisen for a Matronto join our team in the Medicine Care Group based at Darlington MemorialHospital for 4-6 months. We are looking for an appropriately experienced,highly motivated and committed individual to work in a Band 8a Matron rolebased at DMH. This post holder will also be expected to support the nursingteams at Bishop Auckland Hospital and University Hospital of North Durham asrequired within the Care Group. The post will involve working closely with themanagement triumvirate and leading on quality improvement, patient safety andgovernance and providing strong leadership to the nursing teams. In addition the post holderwill have operational responsibilities within the Trust covering the provisionof nursing care and clinical leadership.This post is being advertised as an internalsecondment due to review of portfolios withinthe care group structure. Main duties of the jobThe matron will provide leadership and direction to thestaff within care pathways for which they are accountable, to ensure deliveryof safe care, high quality care in line with the organisations strategicvision. The post holder must be able to motivate teams to reach their fullpotential by provision of exemplary line management skills. The Matron willprovide expert clinical leadership to frontline staff actively promotingCompassion in Practice, the underpinning 6Cs as well as the Trusts values& Behaviours. The Matron will be accountable for both the standard ofnursing/midwifery care and the environment within his/her identified area of responsibility.The Matron will work with clinical teams to maintain excellent standards ofcare, robust infection control practices, high standards of cleanliness andensure that privacy and dignity ismaintained at all times. The Matron willas part of their role on a regular basis deliver direct patient care meetingthe requirements of a registered nurse including assessment, care planning andevaluation of care. It will also include teaching of junior team members. From April 9th 2025 - Healthcare assistants - You must have a minimum of two yearsof experience working within the NHS as a HCA for the Trust to considersponsorship (we will only consider sponsorship if you meet this criteria andhave a current visa expiring within 3 months) Job responsibilitiesThe post holder will be readily available to advise staff onall operational management issues/ infection control/patient safety/ qualityissues as they arise at ward, team and department level. Monitor performance against the range of relevant patientsafety indicators such as falls, pressure ulcers, VTE, medication errors,record keeping and outline improvement plans where aspirations are not beingrealised. The role will be clinically focused and include workingalongside nurses in a coaching/ teaching/ supervisory capacity. The post holder will lead on all aspects of patient safetyand complaints for the area of responsibility, launching investigation / rootcause analysis as required with support from the relevant clinical lead andgeneral manager. The Matron will ensure that patient feedback is acted uponand all lessons learned from complaints and incidents implemented. Ensurethemes are disseminated widely as part of the overall Clinical Governanceframework. The Matron will champion the experience of people whoreceive services by striving to improve quality care. The post holder will provide leadership to ensure caseloadmanagement and flow of patients throughout the service effectively; identifyingand facilitating solutions to bottlenecks to ensure length of stay andre-admission rates are reduced in line with the organisations objectives. The post holder will be readily available to advise staff onall operational management issues/ infection control/patient safety/ qualityissues as they arise at ward, team and department level.
