Job DescriptionRole: Operations ManagerReports to: PaintCare CEODuration: FTC with opportunity to go permanent for the right candidateLocation: West Midlands Organisation OverviewProudly led by the British Coatings Federation, PaintCare aims to create a circular economy for leftover decorative paint in the UK, increasing the re-use or re-manufacture rate from just 2% today to 75% by 2030. This is because an estimated 55 million litres of waste decorative paint are generated in the UK each year. Most of it finds its way into the domestic waste stream; it then either goes into landfill or gets separated out and disposed of as hazardous waste at considerable cost to local authorities.Role OverviewThe Operations Manager will play a crucial role in implementing and optimising the operational aspects of PaintCare's programs, including coordinating the collection of leftover paint and its distribution throughout the reuse/remanufacture network. This individual will manage a team, coordinate with external partners, and ensure that all operational activities meet the organisations quality standards, budgetary guidelines, and sustainability goals.ResponsiblitiesProgram Management & Execution- Lead the implementation and day-to-day management of PaintCares operational programs, including collection sites, recycling initiatives, and reuse efforts for leftover paint. Work closely with internal teams and external partners (e.g., recyclers, municipalities, logistics providers) to ensure the smooth operation. Monitor and evaluate the performance of operational programs, identifying areas for improvement and implementing strategies to enhance program efficiency and effectiveness.Process Optimisation & Efficiency- Develop and implement operational processes and procedures to streamline workflows, reduce costs, and increase program scalability. Identify bottlenecks or inefficiencies in current operations and propose improvements or innovations to enhance service delivery. Ensure compliance with all relevant environmental, safety, and regulatory standards across operational processes.Supply Chain & Logistics Management- Oversee the logistics of paint collection, transportation, and recycling, ensuring timely and efficient handling of materials. Manage inventory.Health & Safety Compliance- Ensure that all operations adhere to health, safety, and environmental regulations, maintaining a safe work environment for staff and partners. Conduct regular safety audits and lead efforts to address any safety concerns or operational risks.Role SpecificationPlanning and implementingManaging resources: Managing all company resources, including raw materials, labour, and capital Enforcing policies: Overseeing company procedures and enforcing policies Balancing expenses and revenue: Finding the balance between expenses and revenue to maintain a company's financial health Managing inventory: Managing inventory and sales representatives to increase sales Troubleshooting: Troubleshooting and removing blockers for staff Improving policies: Improving policies to eliminate workflow bottlenecks and boost productivity Stakeholder engagement: Coordination of all PaintCare operational stakeholder liaisonsQualificationsSenior-level experience in operations management, project management, or logistics, ideally in an environmental, sustainability, or waste management-related industryProven ability to manage and motivate a team, with strong people management, communication, and leadership skills.Problem Solving: A proactive, solutions-oriented mindset, capable of troubleshooting issuesTechnical Proficiency: Familiarity with inventory management systems, data analysis tools, and project management software.Leadership: Proven ability to manage and motivate a team, with strong people management, communication, and leadership skills.Relevant Environmental and/or Waste Management and Resource Efficiency Sector Professional Membership e.g., CIWM; AIEMA etc.
