Hays Health & Safety are excited to be working with an established chemical manufacturer based in Cheshire to find their next SHE Manager due to internal promotion.The plant is a high-tech chemical processing plant that involves regular mixing of chemicals and thus requires a good knowledge of chemistry and process safety.Role Purpose:The SHE Manager will lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of SHE systems and initiatives. Reporting to the site's senior leadership team and working closely with regional safety stakeholders, the successful candidate will be responsible for driving performance, managing risk, and embedding a culture of safety excellence across all levels of the organisation.Key Responsibilities:Develop and maintain site-wide SHE strategies, policies, and procedures in alignment with legal and corporate standardsLead emergency preparedness planning and conduct regular drills (e.g., fire, chemical spill scenarios)Perform risk assessments and provide expert guidance to operational and management teamsInvestigate incidents using structured root cause analysis tools and ensure timely implementation of corrective actionsDeliver safety training, inductions, and toolbox talks to employees and contractorsManage ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 systems, including internal audits and preparation for external certificationMonitor SHE performance metrics and report findings to senior leadershipOversee contractor safety, including permit-to-work systems and compliance verificationSupport cross-functional projects and collaborate with R&D and engineering teams on process safety improvementsChair safety committee meetings and lead behavioural safety and engagement initiativesEssential Requirements:Minimum of 5 years' experience in a comparable SHE role within chemical, pharmaceutical, or other high-risk manufacturing environmentsProven track record in managing ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 management systemsStrong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with excellent communication and leadership skillsCapable of handling multiple priorities in a fast-paced, compliance-driven settingExperienced in conducting internal and external audits and compiling SHE performance reportsWhat's on Offer:A salary of £55,000 - £65,000 is available dependant on experience.The opportunity for future, regional & national opportunities.Hays Specialist Recruitment Limited acts as an employment agency for permanent recruitment and employment business for the supply of temporary workers.
